As a person who lived in Germany for many years while serving in the Air Force, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic German meal. The food was mediocre to say the least and nothing like what you'd get in a gasthaus in Germany. Was very disapointed with the wine as well. The service was very... more

The food was terrible. Nothing was cooked fresh, the meat tasted like it was rotten, the sauce was out of the box, the Spaetzle, normally a soft pasta type, was hard and just old. I feel sorry for anyone going there and thinking this is German food. This is very bad food. It was a very bad experience. I barley... more

Three of us spent $120 here one Friday night recently, dinner and dessert only for three, no alcohol. There was no music, no festivities at all as advertised. Three times we begged for a cup of hot coffee and every time the coffee was lukewarm. Water is served in a small glass so we had to continually request fill ups.... more

As a German who appreciates good food and nice people I would not recommend this place to anyone. Food was lousy, the service was extremely rude. No more words needed! more

For sauerbraten just as good (or maybe even better) than Grandma's go to Schroeders. This place is a blast on Friday nights. They have a German band and Bavarian dancers who go out into the crowd and get the place hoppin. Typical German communal tables are half the fun. We had barely sat down before the Bavarian dancers (in lederhosen... more

Great atmosphere, great German menu and beer. Fun after work location for a group. Kind of loud for a dinner for two. We had questionable service, but don't know if that's normal. Generous portion of Sauerbraten was more food than we could handle. Ham hock soup on the house because of the poor service, which helps make up for the... more

I really liked the food here -- one of the better German restaurants to which I've been. I had the vegetable platter for lunch -- it came with a side of potato salad and cole slaw. The service was very quick -- I was seated right away and the side dishes showed up right after I ordered, and the water... more

Beware: Schroeder's does not serve good German food. Maybe it did several decades ago, but not for the last 10 years, at least. You might be entertained by the decor and old-world ambiance, but enjoy your beers after work or before leaving for dinner elswhere (Taddich's, perhaps). The place used to be gents only, and finally started accepting women in... more

Of all the restaurants, in all of San Francisco, we unfortunately had to walk into this one. The place is old and dumpy, with a good bar, if all you need is a drink. The food was overly fried and flavorless. It was a waste of a dining opportunity in a city full of great restaurants. Never again. more
