Come here for the beer, not the food!

Visited here with a large group for drinks and dinner. The atmosphere is great, not exactly as what you would find in a German brew house (not as cramped), but with a similar feel. Beer choices are quite plentiful. The beer was definitely the highlight of the night. The one heart healthy choice... read more

A newly renovated bar with new owners in the recent past, Schroeder's is a great place for a drink and some bar food. Centrally located on Front street, Schroeder's has good food, service and is very clean. A great meeting place after work or when staying in the downtown area.

Looking for a place to have a beer and see the bowl. One giant projection and another large flat screen. Spaten beer on tap (1/2 price before kick-off) along with bratwurst sandwich topped with sauerkraut (not overly sour) and accompanied by kartoffel tots (tator tots but they sound cooler auf Deutsch). Cavernous with large long tables - decorated with deer... More

Cannot speak for the food but beers were great! Very cool German bar, terrific atmosphere! Would love to go back and try dinner, love the long Octoberfest like tables.

Went here for dinner in June 2012. Fabulous menu! Really good beer...my "friend" got the $31.00 beer boot special. If you are the type that enjoys Polish or German Octoberfest events every other Friday evening of every month this venue puts on quite a show! The bar and restaurant were beautifully decorated with intense German heritage and culture with flags... More

I attended a conference in SF and they had a reception of drinks and snacks at this establishment, and I thought it was really good. I'd heard of it before but never visited until this trip, and I was pleasantly surprised with the "homey" pub-like atmosphere with some modern touches that appealed to me. Most especially I really liked the... More

6 of us ate there on a Monday night. It was not too crowded, but still lively. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and a selection of entrees. Tasty beer and cocktails. The wienerschnitzel was fantastic, the jagerschnitzel was also really good, sauer braten was tender and tasty. The potato pancakes and loaded tater tot nachos were highlights of the... More

My grandfather went to Schroeder's in the early 20th century. He was Swiss-born and appreciated the good German cuisine that this restaurant served. I went there with various family members in the late 1990s and, most recently, on November 22 of this year, following a major makeover of the restaurant. Although I preferred the old, authentic interior, the redesign was... More

I planned a Reunion of students who had studied in Austria in the 1960's, and our dinner at Schroeder's was a very festive way to begin our celebration. We thoroughly enjoyed the remodel...including higher ceilings + the refurbished vintage murals were stunning! The waitstaff was very attentive and personable, and we found the food to be much better than described... More

I can't compare apples to apples since I've never seen to Schroeder's before the remodel, but I like the modern beer hall look. With its spacious communal seating arrangements which encourages you to get to know thy neighbnor. On the other hand, the openess that this type of seating provides ensures that you hear their conversation. No biggie, we keep... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
