I planned a Reunion of students who had studied in Austria in the 1960's, and our dinner at Schroeder's was a very festive way to begin our celebration. We thoroughly enjoyed the remodel...including higher ceilings + the refurbished vintage murals were stunning! The waitstaff was very attentive and personable, and we found the food to be much better than described... More

I can't compare apples to apples since I've never seen to Schroeder's before the remodel, but I like the modern beer hall look. With its spacious communal seating arrangements which encourages you to get to know thy neighbnor. On the other hand, the openess that this type of seating provides ensures that you hear their conversation. No biggie, we keep... More

My first 25 years were pretty much spent in the Richmond district of San Francisco where wave after wave of various ethnicities shared their fare with us. The newly renovated Schroeder's is continuing this San Francisco history. The dark paneled rooms and murals have been moved right into modern times. The tradition of boisterous watering holes in the financial district... More

Had a casual business lunch here. Shared the curry bratwurst sausage and my colleague had the chicken salad and I had SUPER spatzle. They had corn in it and it was creamy. Not diet food, but super yummy. It was listed as an appetizer but could be a good side dish to share. I would definitely have this again. The... More

It's a great room, beautifully reimagined. The beer is good. The service was good. That's all the nice things I can say. The food was absolutely dreadful. Truly one of the worst meals I have ever had at any restaurant any where, period. Perhaps it was just what we ordered (sauerbraten and duck pastrami), but that was inedible (we nibbled,... More

This is another in the new wave of German restaurants in San Francisco that prove how innovative and tasty German food can be. We ordered way too much food, mostly because it all sounded good, smelled, good and looked good. We weren't disappointed by anything. Duck Brest pastrami is amazing. Traditional sauerbraten was a revelation. And even the burger was... More

Schroeder's has been in the same location since 1912. It was classic German fare classically done. I first ate there in 1980 while visiting the city. While attending a conference earlier this month I had the opportunity to revisit the cafe under new owners. The menu retains its classic dishes but the preparation is completely new and is v-e-r-y good.... More

Went there recently and take a looksie since they recently changed ownership and updated the place which has been around 100 years or something. It was happy hour about 6 and the bar area was PACKED like sardines. Everyone was drinking beer of all sizes and brands and we barely found 3 seats tucked in the middle of one of... More

Joined friends for lunch. The company was great. The dining an expensive disappointment. Dry and tasteless veal with an unidentifiable white purée that may have involved apple. Tough, spotted green beans (no excuse for the poor quality). Potato pancakes were mushy inside and flavor overpowered by red onion and smoked salmon--all things I normally like but which came together terribly.... More

I had not been before, but my friends had. They reported this place just got a massive overhaul. Not only in the room, and the menu, but in the prices! What used to be a classic old Czech/German dining hall atmosphere, is now upscale with only communal tables keeping the tradition. I found the food to be good but prices... More
