What can we say?

The staff's warm welcome and friendly service begs you to return...and we likely will. The recent remodel lends a more contemporary feel, but has lost much of the endearing warmth and authenticity of the former space. Food was hit and miss, with the hits very good, and the misses not that much off... read more

Stopped in for a beer during Super Bowl weekend and it was a good time. Good selection of beers and fairly large seating area. We ordered two boots and they are huge. I would also recommend ordering the pretzels, they are very tasty and soak up all that beer you will be drinking. Only downside to this place is they... More

Good selection of beers and wine, nice setting that feels pretty German, good appetizers selection (especially the cheese!)

Cool place for beers. They have long tables, with a beer-hall atmosphere. Our waiter sounded German, and was very knowledgeable with the beers, and had good recommendations. They have Das Boot, which we didn't get since it was kind of overpriced, but unique thing to have. The food was awesome. We shared a bunch of plates to accompany the beer.... More

This is a very goidd restaurant and German Hofbrau (great beers) and one that has dishes such as Bone Marrow Appetizer, the Sausage Platter , Sauerbraten, and other great German dishes. Occasional specials such as Pigs Feet. All very good. Someone commented that this is not GERMAN FOOD AND THEY ALWAYS EAT in Germany. Maybe they eat at the German... More

Great German beer and food in a beer-hall atmosphere make this place fun to visit. It gets busy, but it's a good crowd and an attentive staff.

I've never really eaten German food. I tried the Yager Schnitzel and I actually liked it a lot. They have a lot of great wine and different selections of beer. We went there for a group dinner for work. They had plenty of room. Service was exceptional and the atmosphere was great.

If there is such a thing as California-German fusion this is it. I lived in Germany for years and return often. This place does not serve German food. The beer was good and the band sounded great. Nice atmosphere. Our server essentially shut down when we asked if the Schweinehaxe was on the bone. This is a pork knuckle served... More

Went for a fun business lunch and had the Jaeger Schnitzel with red cabbage. Very tasty. It costs a little more than regular lunch faire but that's expected because it's not your regular lunch faire. I like that they have stein lockers for regulars who want to store their beer steins there...seeing them adds to the fun atmosphere. The waitress... More

This cavernous restaurant just seems to keep going. Seating is just like the large German beer halls - long tables and lots to see. Service was good, beer selection is great and the food is hearty. Come with an appetite!

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
