A fabric of the City for 75 years, it is located in the heart of the historic and majestic North Beach, a mecca for natives, tourists, and culinary aficionados alike. Original Joe’s is the oldest of all existing Joe’s restaurants in the country and is the innovator of what is now nationally known as the “Joe’s Concept”. On the night we visited there was a crucial baseball game for the Giants, local baseball game, playing. The bar side was heaving and the whole place buzzing ... And the Giants scored the winning point at the last moment and the whole place exploded. Of course you don't get that every night, but even without that the atmosphere would... More

There's nothing unique about the place to earn 5 stars, but it's flawless and I would recommend to anyone with a matching budget. It's not extremely expensive, but not suited for travellers on a tight budget.

Our tour guide (EXCELLENT) recommended Joe's because he said it was "authentic Italian". Although I do not disagree, I would not personally recommend this establishment. The wait staff were wonderful, unluckily the food wasn't anything above average. The bread was cold and tough with pre-packaged butter. I ordered the classic spaghetti and meatballs. I expected an extravagant dish with out-of-this-world... More

Walking around North Beach, there are so many restaurants to choose from. This one caught our eye and we decided to give it a try. I think we just ordered the wrong things. They lacked flavor. I had the risotto of the day and my husband got the veal scaloppini. When the waiter noticed that my husband wasn't eating his... More

Original Joe's was a San Francisco staple for years. They were replaced and then re-opened in this North Beach spot that begs for old-school charm and authentic North Beach residents. I don't mean the newly rich, transplants. I mean people/couples/families that go back generations. The Telegraph Hill set. Who got baptized, married and still attend St.'s Peter and Paul. Italian... The food was very good. The veal and fish were very good and fresh. The restaurant was understaffed, but the wait staff worked very hard.

Stopped by here with some friends the other day for lunch. They have a terrific chowder and a really nice chopped salad that is loaded with all sorts of salamis, cheeses, olives, pepperocini, onions, etc. The salad is chopped really fine and is well dressed -- but it is HUGE, so order accordingly. Our friends had the Eggplant parmesan and... More

This restaurant isn't cheap but it was well worth it! Our server was very friendly and the food was amazing! We would have liked to have desert but after a very good entree and starter we unfortunately didn't have room for it. Definitely recommended!

Just remember - Legends sit at the counter. This food is always great, and the service on point. You get what you pay for here and more. I recommend the antipasta plate, joes burger is incredible, and the sole piccata amazing. Cant wait to get back!

During a whirlwind "touristy" weekend in San Francisco, Original Joe's is probably not a restaurant I would normally have chosen. However, my daughter and I were meeting her friend for dinner, and as a resident of the city, she suggested Joe's. Oh, those lucky San Franciscans! If I were a resident, it would be a place I would visit regularly.... More
