Great Escape

Great place to get away from the crowds on the pier. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We were seated at table with a wonderful view of the bay. The lunch was delicious and we all felt better after having lunch in this relaxing venue.

Peaceful, quiet (!), beautiful views of the Bay, excellent meal and service. A fantastic break from the hustle and kitsch outside. I like Japanese cuisine, but had never had a "lava rock" self-cooking experience. http://www.hanazenrestaurant.net/mainmenu.html Highly recommend!

My son and I went to have dinner at Hana Zen since it was one of the few places open for dinner on Christmas. The atmosphere is not very comfortable since we were waiting to be seated while we stood on the stairs and others at the top of the stairs where there was barely any space for anyone to... More

Solid, no frills Japanese restaurant near Union Square. We had a late, jet lagged dinner. We split a good rainbow roll and then had udon and soba noodles in brother with tempura. Not bad at all...

I went here for lunch. The service and food were ok. I have to agree with an earlier reviewer - the place needs a good scrubbing. Not what you would expect in a Japanese restaurant.

THIS PLACE SUCKS! Our experience began with a very rude hostess. She had a bad attitude and was not welcoming at all. While we were waiting for our table I casually strolled over to the bar to see their selection of Sake which was nicely displayed. The hostess had a giant fit of rage over that, she was complaining and... More

Was in town on a last minute trip. had the night open so went to Hana Zen. Never again.Sat at the Sushi bar, it was like they had no clue what the protocol was, I've spent time in Japan and all over Asia and enjoyed the best Sushi in the US, this was quite simply terrible. It's ok, not as I expected though. The food was ok but there are other better sushi restaurants around. The menu is limited, the service is good and the price is reasonable.

Very good happy hour, $4.00 wine and $3. Draft beer. Had the gyoza, crunchy California roll, spicy tuna and California roll, each entree was $4.00 during happy hour. Very tasty and filling. Staff were very nice , will go again
