Good but Steep

Because there were ten of us (5 adults and 5 kids 12 and under), our San Francisco friend suggested Yank Sing - they take reservations, which are hard to come by in Chinatown. The place is very popular and even with a reservation, we had to wait almost 30 minutes until our table cleared. The dim... read more

You need to book for this Dim Sum restaurant where the trolleys are continually bringing round the most superb freshly made Dim Sum. It is spotlessly clean and modern tucked away down a side street.

Coming from Toronto, I find the food very mediocre and very expensive. We had the Shanghai dumplings which was $14! In toronto, you can get better quality and cheaper for half the price. We also had the bbq pork bun which was good too, but also over priced. Overall, good dim sum, but overpriced.

This is high quality, high priced dim sum. But, we felt taken advantage of by the rushed service. Before we had even sat down, carts of food were pushed in front of us, and so we started ordering. Then we saw the menu -- not sure when it was placed on our table. Without knowing the price, I took the... More

We didn't read the reviews carefully enough and tried to go for dinner - this is only a lunch place, opening at 11 am and closing at 3 pm! The dim sum was excellent, and we found the prices completely acceptable. Our favourites were the BBQ Pork buns (delicious), and the Xiao long Bao dumplings (filled with broth). We had... More

After getting checked into our hotel this was our first lunch, and although both my wife and I aren't experienced with dim sum, we both real enjoyed the food and the service. It isn't cheap, and easy to get carried away with too much food, when they keep coming by with such good looking items. This was a great way... More

Yes I know. It is pricey for dim sum. But I think the quality and consistency are part of what you pay for, and of course the part of town. If you are looking for Xiao Long Bao, I think they have some of the best. Sure you could track down somewhere in China Town that has equally good soup... More

I love xiao long bao and think of myself as an expert. These were the best I've had outside of Shanghai. At $14 a pop, they had better be delish! And they were! The other steamers on the carts were tasty and a bit cheaper, but I went back for multiple steamers of the dumplings. The restaurant is hidden in... More

Oh wow- was Yank Sing fun. You must go hungry, because there are so many things to try. The place, even at lunch, is hectic, so go in with the right attitude! The food was very good..

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
