Worth The Wait

They brew an excellent cup of coffee; if you like a strong French roast, this'll be the best coffee you've ever had (but remember to ask for half & half because they put whole milk in the pitchers on the table). The menu is varied w/ the usual offerings and some of their own special items. I had a... read more

My wife and I made a weekend trip to San Francisco and stayed near Union Square. I was looking for something different for a Sunday morning breakfast and discovered Dotties's, a short walk away. At 9:30 on a Sunday morning, there was a line outside, around the corner, so we got in line and had a nice discussion with some... More

Had to wait 15 minutes for a table which wasn't a problem but the aggressive beggar outside was a nuisance to the point we complained to the manager who came outside and had words with him! The area this restaurant is located is very 'colourful' but this seems to be a theme in San Francisco. However the food is fantastic... More

I was fortunate to be staying in a hotel adjacent to this place, and it seemed a perfect location for some breakfast. Being an early started, I got a table straight away - by the time I left there was a queue of over 50 people outside, so I'd advise an early arrival. Inside, the food (scrambled egg with spicy... The food and service here is really a 5 rating however the illegal activities that are occurring in the alley while you are waiting is unacceptable. The drug dealing, drug using and what appeared to be prostitutes walking by was a lot to absorb. Our wait in line was about an hour, again the food and service was worth the... More

A line around the corner every time, I’ve ever visited. My wife ordered the coffee cake, OUTRAGEOUS! I had sworn off sweets and carbs for the most part, but this was so edible and easy. That, and splitting a scramble entree was all we needed along with this gargantuan serving of coffee cake. Great service and an intimate setting in... More

If you're a coffee lover you got to SIP their roasts.. quite distinct and very very different form the classic starbucks taste... I bet starbucks you wouldn't look for once you've been here... good thing is that they sell their beans to other stores so you can search them online and sip their roasts as they don't have many standalone... We had the lamb merguez sausage omelette and it was by far the best breakfast I've ever had. Top notch service and food! A must if visiting San Francisco.

Worth the wait for fantastic food and coffee. As others have noted, the area is a bit sketchy but the food, all homemade and fresh is the best. I will be dreaming of this place and using it as a benchmark for ALL future breakfast/brunch places. You must visit

Atmosphere may not grab you. The neighborhood isn't good. But the food is simply amazing and bountiful. Some people complain about the service but the last two times I've hit it off with the waitresses and really liked them. Also ate at the old location going back a long time.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
