Description: Fringale pioneered the South of Market culinary renaissance as one of the...
Fringale pioneered the South of Market culinary renaissance as one of the first true French bistros in San Francisco. Featuring French/ Basque cuisine, specialties include spicy Monterey calamari with jalapenos & chorizo, foie gras terrine with nectarine compote, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, and braised savoy cabbage with caramelized onion sauce. Also popular is traditional duck confit served with lentils "Du Puy" in red wine sauce. The restaurant's sponged eggshell colored walls, blonde wooden chairs, sand and earth toned banquettes and verdigris bartop create a dining environment that is sophisticated, intimate and inviting. Fringale is a place where guests can drop in for a glass of wine and snack at the bar or enjoy a tantalizing meal prepared by one of the finest French kitchens in San Francisco. In addition to a full bar, Fringale's wine list offers a fine selection of California wines along with wine selections from smaller French producers.

Wonderful french restaurant

Authentic french restaurant. Amazing pommes frites! Everything was perfectly done. They even catered to our time constraints. We arrived late because of the traffic and needed to be out early for our cirque du soleil tickets. Great job!

I love this place, first dined here in the early 90's, just excellent. The room is quite beautiful, the service professional, warm and very friendly. On my last visit I had the Rack of Lamb, so good. The sponge cake bread pudding with bananas and chocolate, delicious. There's a good reason why this restaurant has been in business so long,... More

I've been to this place a few times and normally recommend it. It's very small and the night we went it was packed. Normally the service is excellent but our table was ignored for 15 mintues after being seated. We had to ask another waiter to send our waiter over which was amazing since we were seated directly in the... More

I appreciate your recommendation! Sorry to hear your service was a little slower than usual, but I'm glad you enjoyed your calamari. We always aim for our service to be attentive and efficient, and it sounds like we might have been having a little bit of an off night on your last visit. Look forward to seeing you again soon.... This was a very nice find. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with the menu. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing. We had the Petrale Sole and it was done to perfection. The salad choices were terrific. We look forward to a return dinner.

Great French influenced basque restaurant. Every course was delicious, but the lamb chops are some of the most flavorful and properly cooked that I have ever had. Service is very efficient, but sort of with a bit of French attitude (not the most cheerful, but not by any means bad). Would definitely return.

This is a very nice restaurant and we went for our New Year's Eve dinner. It is not too pricy considering its location and on New Year's Eve. Food is good. Sea Bass could not have been Chilean but we were told it is Chilean. We had Chilean Sea Bass before and we knew this wasn't Chilean. Filet Mignon was... More

Thank you for letting us host your new year's dinner, Tony! However, I am glad that the filet was good. We hope this will be the... More

Fringale is in the SOMA....an edgy part of town. So it makes sense to me that the prices were very reasonable and the portions very good as well.....especially for a French restaurant. Everything was delicious. Les Garcons were very nice and attentive, nothing like Paris! My only negative....$25 corkage! Yikes! I'm used to the Napa Valley where the corkage fee... More

Excellent traditional French food, served very professionally by true French waiters (but without the bad attitude!). This is a good place to impress your friends by ordering in French. Been going to Fringale for many years. Some of the dishes are as good as any you'll find in SF. It is small and sometimes crowded, but the staff have been there for a long time and they're typical bistro pros. The menu changes from time to time but it could do with more seasonal changes.

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
