My brother is quite the culinary detective. He knows all the good places in SF to eat, and this was one of his top picks for sushi. It was busy, but not overly crowded, which was fabulous. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. My brother and his girlfriend love sushi. I had never in my life had... More

Ate at Hotei in early March 2014. Was surprised how small the place was. Loved the atmosphere. Was pleasantly surprised by the miso soup (never had it before). It was very good. Ordered the pot stickers which was also very good. They are well known for their sushi. If you're going to Hotei, be sure to check their hours of... More

I used to live in this neighborhood and loved Hotei, particularly their tsukimi udon. THe ika fry is also very good. One of the main draws of this place is that you can get sushi from Ebisu across the street (has the same owners) without fighting the huge crowds that flock there all the time. Last time I went was... More

Went there for work with my colleague who spent significant time in Japan. He loved Hotei's authentic vibe. We had the dish with chicken and eggs mixed in with rice and we both enjoyed it. Our waitress, from Japan, was a ton of fun, and you could tell that she really enjoyed her work and this helps elevate the score... More

We wanted a quick place for a light dinner, and found this. Pretty good sushi and veg Gyoza. Good service. Not sure if I would recommend going out of your way for this.

Nice fresh ramen noodles and savory broth. Tempura was nice and light. Good option to fuel up before or after the science museum.

Great stop on the way to the Golden Gate Park. Had a roll and some yakisoba. Food tasted good and price was fairly reasonable for portion size. Didn't feel super authentic Japanese, but it was tasty.

When visiting family in The Sunset, we always eat at or take out from Hotei. Always fresh, always friendly, always tasty. With something for everyone.

FINALLY. After 2 years of doting on my inner sunset, I actually seemed cognizant enough to stop my accidental boycott of this restaurant. I had nothing against it. I liked it's looks. I wanted to go. But anytime I thought "ramen", I thought "ebisu instead why not" and went with it. So I have been twice now..... I want to... More
