Really great food

Very authentic Italian food, very Italian servers, and a cozy atmosphere. They also carry a great selection of wines and spirits. If you want great Italian, this is your place

If you want great Italian fare with a superb wine list served by a knowledgeable and friendly staff then North Beach Restaurant is a perfect fit! The prosciutto was the finest around! You may even spot a celebrity or two. We did.

Although everything we ate was fine, nothing was exceptional or worth the price. Wouldn't recommend.

I absolutely love this restaurant - I've been coming here for many years and have always found food the food and service to be some of the best in the city. My wife and I recently joined another couple for dinner before walking 2 blocks to see "Beach Blanket Babylon". As always, the restaurant lived up to expectations. With amazing... More

We passed over soto more which is around the corner to eat here and wished we hadn't. The restaurant is very nice and the serving staff are incredible but that can't hide the fact the food is average and expensive. I know we would not recommend it to friends and wouldn't go back go back.

Lovely restaurant. My Strip was cooked to perfection and was delicious. My wife had pasta, cooked the authentic Italian way (a bit stiffer) and would have likely ordered something else had she known. Son had the swordfish and it was delicious. The tirimasu for dessert was the best we've had.

A great atmosphere in this Tuscan restaurant which was very busy for Fathers Day. Despite this the service was so fast that we completed our meal in only an hour. Food was good and the wine list was extensive including many Italian wines from my local region, which was nice to see. Meal for two with a bottle of wine... More

Was a bit afraid it would be too pricey or snobby when we saw a SF music icon dining there when we walked in, but we were treated like stars too! A nice high end restaurant that delivers. The veal melted like butter! Was there with a large group and everyone raved about their meal.

My daughter and I had a delicious dinner here. The food was great - good Italian food just always hits the spot! Yummy bread, nice salads, pasta cooked perfectly, good service, and a friendly maitre'd who suggested we visit his family's vineyard that weekend when we were going to Sonoma for a wedding. We will definitely return to North Beach... More

Firstly I must say that the waiter who looked after our table should have his jacket dry cleaned! We were there early so it was clearly dirty from previous nights! Really bad first impression, he was however very pleasant! Starters were ok but the chicken which was to be one of their signature dishes was terrible! It simply was dry... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
