I read about Rose Pistola when it first opened and finally made it to SF to try it. Wonderful service, very relaxed . Try the North Beach Mule - we make them at home now. The pizza was terrific as well as the pasta. Great salads and wine. We had a window table with a great view. The perfect first... More

On visits to San Francisco we have eaten at Rose Pistola frequently. The food has always been very good, as it was when we had Sunday lunch there recently. But the service was as bad as we have ever had at a restaurant with Rose Pistola's prices and reputation. There appeared to be only one server on duty. We had... More

Being a 2nd generation Italian and having visited many times, this is some of the best Italian food i have had in California! The pizza had an excellent & flavorful blend of ingredients, along with a simple and rustic salad with beautiful lettuce, All very fresh and crisp ingredients, Very well priced for the excellent quality of food!

There are many good choices for Italian dining in the North Shore district of San Francisco, but Rose Pistola is one option that should not be missed. The service was exemplary, the staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere warm and accomodating. More Italian wines than most, but not an extensive Northern Californian list. This slightly surprising shortcoming is more... More

We had a large group and brought wine because we felt there list was mediocre. They would not allow us to open our wine even though they have a corkage fee and really could not justify their refusal. Eventually they let us open a couple of bottles after dinner was underway but they ruined our evening. That is unfortunate because... More

We pulled without a reservation on a Saturday night around 7:30 with a party of 4. We used the wonderful valet service for a reasonable $11. When I told the hostess we did not have a reservation but were happy to use the valet they provided we were seated immediately! The service was not the best I've ever had but... More

Of the many Italian choices in North Beach this is one of the best. Excellent service, atmosphere, and food. This is a sister resturant with Terzo and Rose's Cafe in Cow Hollow on Union Street and both of those are also a wise choice.

We found Rose Pistola's provided excellent service and amazing food. Fun atmosphere while remaining romantic at the same time. We will return.

We ate here back in Dec 2013 and now 3 times in Oct 2014! The food is great. We tried their pizza this time and it was great....also the Potato Gnocchi and it was great! We ate outside on 1 of the 3 dinners here this time....busy sidewalk table but was nice and we were grateful to get a table... More

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
