Street full of fun, B44 is one of the better ones

Dined here one evening and the bartender took my order before 7 and then forgot about me for 10 minutes. She came back, apologised for delay (I didn't see it as a delay) and then proceeded to give me one of their higher priced wines for the the HH price of $5. A good start. This was followed by... read more

I just visited Spain in September and fell in love with tapas/pintxos as I traveled through Madrid, Rioja, San Sebastian, Valladolid and Caceres. The food and wine everywhere was outstanding and very affordable. Naturally, I was hoping to find something similar in the Bay Area and B44 hit my radar. Unfortunately, the wine and food did not measure up to... More

Stopped here for dinner as they had one of the most appealing menu's in the alley. The food was very good, as was the wine. The waitress was also lovely, friendly and quick. This place is tucked away but worth searching out.

With so many wonderful restaurants in the Bay area, it seems like it could be difficult to stand out. B44 accomplishes this by allowing the chef to create truly wonderful dishes that are authentic in taste and presentation, as well as making you want to taste everything on the menu. My wife and I chose to sit at the bar... More

A good place to share many different foods from Spain with friends. The large plates are good to share too. I haven't had a bad meal yet and have been several times. The Ahi tuna is great along with the stuffed peppers. The potatoes are a house specialty so add them to the list.

B44 is on Belden Place, surrounded by lots of other good choices. We had a shrimp app, another seafood app and the paella. Everything was great. They have lots of outdoor seating but in San Francisco, that's not always a great option. It was on the day we visited. The service was great and our waiter was very friendly. I've... More

This is an excellent Spanish tapas style restaurant in a small alley behind the Bank of America Building in downtown San Francisco. It is one of many restaurants along the alley, however it is the only tapas restaurant. The menu has small plate tapas dishes and also larger courses. The dishes we had for dinner were excellent - the paella,... More

Love this little alley and all of the venues look great and all try to get you to sit down, if you come early (just like in Europe). I always choose Catalon or Provence and the paella tempted me again. It's always good, but this time chose fideo. More intense flavor than rice and left me with room for more... More

The food here is great, Catalan style tapas, every we tried was yummy. Their potatoes bravos, honey and rosemary ice cream, and cheeseboard stood out in particular. Cocktails were great too.

Had a wonderful lunch here at this Catalan/Spanish restaurant on beautiful Belden Place in the heart of the financial district. It is so nice to be able to eat al fresco in downtown and not be bothered by vehicles--Belden is a traffic-free alley with only restaurants and outdoor seating! B44 has a large selection of tapas, based mainly on the... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
