Off the beaten path...

Well, it was Super Bowl 50 Weekend and every place we tried was closed (I'm guessing due to crowds and proximity to the weekend's festivities). Was after a trade show with a bunch of foodies. Tastes were delicious and spicy. Order different things to enjoy a bunch of different tastes.

While the atmosphere exuded authenticity of the Catalan experience, the paella sadly did not come close. The portion was much smaller than what you might see in Barcelona, and was a bit too salty. We suggest that a more ample serving is in order.

Tapas selection is acceptable although the quality could be improved a bit more or could have been a bad night. Gambas, the morcilla sausage, the canelones... will need a revisit. I was impressed by the paella negra.

Though the menu struck me as a bit limited, what we had was well-prepared, and tasted great. My only complaint is that the portions seem small for the prices charged. The paella was wonderful, but I wish it had been available in varying sizes. At $25 I have to ask if it was truly worth it. The four of us... More

Wonderful Spanish food in San Francisco located in Belden Place which is an alley near Union Street. Lots of restaurants in the alley. Favorites: octopus ceviche, stuffed squid in own ink, gamba, flan Catalan, and chocolate mousse.

Dined here one evening and the bartender took my order before 7 and then forgot about me for 10 minutes. She came back, apologised for delay (I didn't see it as a delay) and then proceeded to give me one of their higher priced wines for the the HH price of $5. A good start. This was followed by one... I just visited Spain in September and fell in love with tapas/pintxos as I traveled through Madrid, Rioja, San Sebastian, Valladolid and Caceres. The food and wine everywhere was outstanding and very affordable. Naturally, I was hoping to find something similar in the Bay Area and B44 hit my radar. Unfortunately, the wine and food did not measure up to... More

Stopped here for dinner as they had one of the most appealing menu's in the alley. The food was very good, as was the wine. The waitress was also lovely, friendly and quick. This place is tucked away but worth searching out.

With so many wonderful restaurants in the Bay area, it seems like it could be difficult to stand out. B44 accomplishes this by allowing the chef to create truly wonderful dishes that are authentic in taste and presentation, as well as making you want to taste everything on the menu. My wife and I chose to sit at the bar... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
