Per a recommendation from the concierge, we headed to an international alley (Belden Place) just a few blocks from the Chinatown gate - there are several little small restaurants set up down this alley, and we landed at B44 - a Spanish bistro. Although we had "reservations", we had our choice of seating, and landed on a nice table outside... More

For the money, it was just a 3 or 3.5, i.e. OK. I would eat there again, but I'd more likely give some other place a chance on my next visit, rather than returning right away. The food was tapas style. Interesting dishes, but everything we ordered seemed a little too much on the oily/greasy/unhealthy side for our taste. Vegetables... More

We enjoyed the informal rustic ambience. After being seated, we ordered a bottle of Albarino. However, the wine was brought to the table warm. Our waiter immediately immersed the bottle in a full ice bucket. While we waited for the wine to chill, he served us each a complimentary glass from an open bottle at the bar. We were impressed... I came here for a business lunch so I didn't expect or need a lot. I just need a convenient location, decent service and decent food. What I got was a convenient location, decent service, and the worst lunch I remember ever having, which given the fact I hadn't eaten breakfast and was starving, says a lot. I had the... More

We hadn't been to Belden Place for a few years, but were coming into the city for a show and thought of the paella at B44. We met there for early dinner with a few friends and it was even better than we remembered. We shared tapas of gambas, pulpo, and fire roasted piquillo peppers. Each came out when it... More

Came here for dinner tonight with a friend that wanted to try this place. She was craving for paella. I ordered the pork prime rib which was another term for pork chop and my friend had the seafood paella. the pork chop was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. I devoured it in 5 minutes. My friend loved her paella... More

Went here for dinner one night while in town on business. Tapas were a perfect way to get a good taste of multiple dishes. Loved, loved the oysters as well as the meat platter. Patatas bravas were also on point. Sangria was a bit weak, but my colleague enjoyed their selection of red wines.

We were going to a birthday party at a lounge nearby, with drinks and appetizers. So, we concentrated on tapas at B44. Excellent! The piquillo peppers stuffed with goat cheese and, alternatively, with crab, were great. Also, the octopus dish. The octopus was so tender. The boccarones were exceptional. We shared a cava, an Albarino, and a Basque white. Great... More

I had wanted to go here last time in SF. Menu is interesting and not just another version of what everyone else is doing. Ate at the bar. Both the proprietor and bartender engaged in conversation and I was quickly made to feel welcome. They took time to explain many of the items and share their personal favorites. Food was... More
