Trying to find a good fish restaurant in San Francisco is harder than you'd think. We were helped by someone local who suggested the Bush street area had some good eateries. In San Francisco for fun and the concierge recommended this Spanish restaurant. We would not return and the only thing not disappointing was the house sangria. We were seated in a dark corner with a table that tipped on the uneven floor. We could see they were understaffed for the crowd but we were in no hurry so we tried... More

We had heard about B44 but never dined here. Waiter Geronimo was very helpful and explained the equivalent types of wine for the Spanish wines on the menu. Wine was good as were the small plates of scallops, calamares, romaine hearts, etc. With the heater we enjoyed the outdoor dining on this fun street. An incentive to eat outside was... More

Lively, energetic outdoor dining experience. Started out great with excellent B44 gin and tonic and bread with olive oil and olives. Tapas were okay ... but the B44 Paella was not good. Over-powering fishy flavor with skimpy portions of proteins that were tiny and indistinguishable. Surprised at the high overall rating for quality of food. Proceed with caution.

Hidden on a small street off Kearney is a Basque restaurant (among other restaurants giving the entire street a European old world feel) with great food, drinks and wine. We dined al fresco and each plate - small and large - was better than the one before. Basque cheeses, seafood paella, beef and sweets with red wine, drinks called "delerium"... More

We've been here several times, and each time has been enjoyable. Our favorires are the paellas, jamon iberico and chipirones.

I celebrated a birthday here with 7 others and we had a great time. The wine selection and food were really good. Loved the tapas and finished with paella and fideua. Our server was great and we ate, drank and had a good time for about 3 hours. After all this, the bill was about $85 per person. One note... More

B44 was a suggested place to visit on a recent trip to SF. This Catalan restaurant was busy and the food excellent. We chose tapas and paella to share. The dishes came quicky and were generous in size. Our waiter was efficient, and although busy seemed to give us a nice balance of service, often sometimes missing in the USA... More

7 of us visited this restaurant. Nice setting down an alleyway with other restaurants around. This isn't worth a long review so in summary the service was terrible. The wine came after the appetisers. The waiter who was a total jerk argued that only 1 in 1000 bottles are corked. This argument was with my colleague who has patents in... More

Once a year I am in town and stroll the Belden Alley for dinner. This place has a little different vibe and more interesting menu than many other places...why I went back. High point was our server--Justin--who kept us engaged and really seemed to care who we were and why we were in town. He was a former standup comic... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
