Nice but pricey

The 4 stars are for the pizza that tasted great not for the price. Restaurant was crowded. 17 dollar for a small pizza seems high to me but San Francisco is more expensive than other cities.

Authentic Italian food, great flavors, well-prepared dishes. Great spot to grab a seat outside at quaint tables and people-watch. We found ourselves seated upstairs----not bad and the decor is fascinating!!! Our waiter was friendly and our service was wonderful. Referring back to the food----good portions, everything we had was so delicious. Start off with some of the garlic cheese bread... More

Packed on a Saturday night. Streetside table. Hot glasses to drink your ice water -- so, the glasses are clean, but the water is warm, and there is no ice offered. You want minestrone soup. It arrives lukewarm with no particular flavor and just a lot of stuff. You have the calzone burger. Barely any burger but lots of bread... More

We had fried calamari, very tender, Italian delicatessen, the first good ham I had since 2 weeks I am in the US and an excellent and plentiful pizza.plus a bottle of white california wine and 2 bottles of sparkling water, it was about 40 euros each. you may think it's expensive. But then, it was a very good and feeling meal,... More

We selected this venue based on tripadvisor recommendations: solid four star rating and $$ price range. Oh boy. It could have not been more misleading. We ordered two pizzas, each costing around $20. The thing they brought us didn't look like pizza at all. It was a tiny oval roughly half the size of normal (thin crust) pizza that could... More

Calzones was our choice for dinner during a recent vacation. The seating is very nice, they have options to sit outside or inside next to big windows which you can slide open or closed to your choosing. The waiters are friendly but to someone who doesn't understand humor they may come off as short or rude, often referring to or... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
