It doesn’t get more local than Calzone's, in the heart of North Beach. Whether you're sitting outside at the heated cafe tables or inside in one of the comfy booths, this sparkling bistro with a decidedly Cal-Euro atmosphere is the perfect place for watching eclectic locals mix with visitors drawn by North Beach's reputation as the hip place to see and be seen. The restaurant has been owned and operated by the same North Beach native since 1986 and is open 365 days a year, serving food continuously from 11:30 am until 1:00 am.

Stopped by for an early dinner. Had the fettuccine with prawns. Very tasty. Service was good. Only complaint was the shrimp/prawns still had the tails on. I know this is the way lots of restaurants are doing it now, but the fettuccine was served on a plate with a deep rounded center, so it made attempting to cut the tails... More

Thank you so much for that feedback! Little things like these can go unnoticed sometimes, but I will certainly be talking to the kitchen about that so we can choose whether or not to leave them on at all. Hope to have you back again sometime. Sincerely, Andre More

We found this restaurant as a result of luck as we were starving and parked just in front. It was our first night in San Francisco and we usually like to check reviews on places before getting there but we were so hungry we decided anything was good. For our good luck we found one of the best places in... More

Really nice location.. The food was a bit pricey but had a very good salad and the pizza was good as well. Nice windows for people watching.

Thanks for the feedback! I always want to be sure that our food is well worth the price, so I will be sure to speak with the kitchen to see what can be done. Other than that, I'm pleased to see you had a great time here, and I do hope to see you again. Cheers, Andre More

I rarely complete online reviews but we fell in love with this restaurant. Found it by accident but ended up eating there 3 times during our 6 night stay in san fran. Great service and food was perfectly prepared to our liking. Agree with other reviews in relation to people watching! We're hoping to visit San Fran again next year... More

We went in without a reservation and were seated in a short amount of time, good for 7pm on a Friday. Appetizers and entrees, served quickly and hot. Only problem is deciding what to order, it is all good.

We played tourist in Sf for a day and decided to restaurant hop - came in and fell in love with the funky interior and food ! We ordered the fresh fettucine with crab ( not the Alfredo) and have it a two thumbs up! Chunkful of crab on a lighter sauce and we split it to have enough space... More

We recently ate at Calzone's in San Francisco almost by accident. We were looking for another place for a mid-day meal, couldn't find it, and spied Calzone's across Columbus Street. It looked inviting with outdoor seating and one table open. We dashed across, sat down, chatted with the waiter, ordered a giant calzone and a couple wines. For the next... More

Ate here on 1st April 2015 after a late flight from Maui. Food was first class and I would mark it as a 5 but just thought it was a bit pricey. Cost $200 (with tip) for 5 mains and 5 sodas........we did have 3 side salads too. Would return despite price.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
