Delicious Italian Food, Great Seating

We had great pasta and a decent bottle of pinot noir outside at Calzone's. There are heating lamps that make the cold bearable during winter and the staff was friendly. Very recommendable.

Ate outside 3yrs ago and it made everything seem incredable! I think the food combined with atmosphere really made it fun. I ate inside with my family and it just wasn't the same. Food was good service was great, atmosphere was ok. My moms meal was The best out of 4 of us my shrimp was over cooked... But the... More

We popped in for a late lunch, we were not disappointed even though we thought the staff were a bit slow to come and take our drinks order, but we were happy with the overall service.

The food was ok, although the calzones are interesting. The pastas are worthwhile. However, the best thing about this place is the heated sidewalk dining. You're toasty warm even if it goes down to 40 degrees F. Great for people watching! Of all the cafes along Columbus Avenue, you'll see many that are almost empty, but those sidewalk tables are... The tables outside along the sidewalk are great for having a glass of Chianti or a cocktail while nibbling on appetizers. The Bruschetta was excellent. Didn't have a meal there so can not comment on the menu. However, from the looks of the plates, the food was plentiful. Service was excellent and attentive, Prices were high but everything in SF... Stay away. Pizza is not some toppings sprinkled over a long piece of pita bread! Small portions. No flavor. Total waste of money.

Under other circumstances I would maybe only give four stars, as it was pretty pricey, very busy and rather touristic. But it was December 25, and most of the restaurants in the area were (understandably) closed. Here however, the waitress greeted us with a big happy Holidays smile and served wonderful Italian dishes. Until yesterday, I always said that I... More

This restaurant looks like the usual tourist trap and perhaps it is, but what prompted me to write this review was the pizza, which is nothing like I have had before and really very good. Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
