An impromptu lunch for a group of 5. The wait staff set up a lovely table outside for us. They fawned over us~ in a good way~ for over an hour. We sampled all sorts of food from a large menu. The pizza was very good & they were happy to substitute ingredients for me. The Calzone was awesome &... More

The first time we walked past Calzones we knew this was a place where we wanted to eat. I mean seriously, the tables are right along the sidewalk...what a perfect place for people watching! We were on the mood for Italian, namely pizza. It was delicious and the service was prompt and attentive even sitting right out on the street.... More

The name is Italian, no doubt. That's it. Everything else is not. Having said that, I appreciated this ristorante/pizzeria and the effort of making/keeping it as close as possible to the Italian ones. I understand: tastes vary from one country to another and cooks must someway comply with what the clientele likes the most..., hence the 4-star rating. I had... More

I'm Italian so I can say that this is not a real Italian place,in the sense that they serve the foods pushing an extrakick that can satisfy the American customers and the waiters are not Italian as well but I ate an oval pepperoni pizza and it was ok.The location is great in the North beach area and restaurant itself... Not being able to get a table at Tony's around the corner we chose Calzone's from a neighborhood full of Italian restaurants. Outdoor heaters took off the chill of the evening as we enjoyed our meal while people watching. The calamari was plentiful and articulately delicious. We also had a margarita pizza which was smaller than expected but pretty tasty.... More

We live in Washington DC, and visited this great restaurant back in 2003 for the very 1st time. I had that lassagna, and in all these years I have tried several lassagnas almost around the world And absolutely nobody makes it like them! This year in August 8/14 we went back to San Francisco after 11 years, and we made... More

Busy Italian restaurant on this street with many restaurants, which makes it hard to choose if you are a tourist and don't know any of them. Our daughter was ending a half-year stay in San Francisco, and she led us here, and she knew what she was doing! Service was efficient and friendly, the atmosphere was good and the food was... More

Depending on the time of day, the service can slow down just a bit, but enjoy the street bustle because it is right in front of you...literally. Our gnocchietti was excellent and the wine was good. It was only a few dollars more than places with less ambiance. I would eat here again and recommend it. Pastas, meat dishes, calzones... More

In Little Italy.....lots of tables outside under shade overlooking the road but we chose inside. The decor is great - all sorts of Italian groceries. We stayed at the Boheme and in hindsight wished we had eaten at Calzone's again. Just one meal, at a sidewalk table on a Friday afternoon, a little wine, a wonderful pizza, and great people watching....ten feet from the door to our hotel.
