Good solid food

Went here for dinner. I had the lamb and my wife had the sole. Each was good and service was also good. I liked the family style soup and salad. A bit small, but a good taste of the old North Beach.

And, probably, so long immigrant-American Italian food in North Beach. When we were there in April, this beloved local institution supposedly had one more week to go so by now, it will be dark. It's a victim of it's own time-worn dining style (family service of a bowl of bland soup, then a bowl of salad, after which everyone gets... More

Sorry to give a poor review to one of the few really old-time restaurants left in this forgetful city. Although we live here, this was our first visit to Capp's. We were warmly greeted & well treated by all the staff. Unfortunately, food wasn't very good. Ordinary minestrone, unexciting salad with tacky creamy dressing. One of us had spaghetti with... More

Great place over the years for Italian food in North Beach. This place is "old school" North Beach and is a treasure. We heard they were closing because of landlord issues and just had to get here at least one more time. We live in Napa, so took the Vallejo Ferry to Pier 41 and walked up Powell to North... More

This is a great place for great food. Make a reservation and show up a little early as it gets m=packed. Well known in it's area as Beach Blanket Babylon is next door and the line forms early. Best Minestrone soup I have ever had and I don't like Minestrone soup. Well, I never liked it before. Really great place... More

My husband and I ate dinner at this restaurant on February 13, 2015 before seeing Beach Blanket Bingo. This restaurant is next to the theatre entrance for Beach Blanket Bingo. We did not have a reservation and were seated right away at 5:30pm. The meals are served family style. My husband and I were seated at a table for four.... More

Filet of sole with lemon butter is perfect. The fish is slightly brown on the outside, it melts in your mouth. Vegetable is cooked just right. The price is right too.

Family style dining at it's best. The food was good and the servers were very accommodating. The restaurant is cozy and the atmosphere is very inviting. Good for families and large groups.

My parents used to go to Capps's Corner so when we were going to see Beach Blanket Babylon we decided to go there. Before the show it was too crowded to get into but after the show it was a perfect place for a night capp. Love the feel and powerful drinks!

Capp's corner has been around "forever." They are just a few steps from the Beach Blanket Babylon venue. They serve good salad and minestrone soup which are included with your hearty Italian meal. Our group dined on mussels with fettuccine, veal tortellini in a wine cream sauce, and ravioli with meat sauce. Everyone said their meal was good! Reservations are... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
