Went there for lunch and they were slammed, so we had to wait a few minutes. The owner was there to greet us and gave my wife and I a glass of wine on the house for our wait. The pappardelle with oxtail ragu was the best pasta dish I have ever had! Definitely worth the wait!

Was visiting SF on business and pleasure and had a business dinner at Ristorante Umbria. Everyone enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. Real Italiano. My Lasagne all Forno was to die for. The next night I was with my family and I recommended this place and everyone enjoyed it (me again). I stuck with the Lasagne and it was again... More

Pizza with fava beans and burrata on bread for starter. We shared a roasted chicken. They served it over grilled vegetables and rosemary potatoes.

We were staying in town for night at a nearby hotel and the concierge directed us to the restaurant. We had a great meal and experience. The service was very helpful, even on a very busy night with the restaurant slammed, they found a table for us. We each had pasta which was homemade and well prepared. The wine by... More

Not Italian-ish, real Italian. Came for a quick lunch stop during conference at Moscone. It is the opposite direction than most people go for lunch so was not too crowded. Menu was full of real Italian dishes. Not one of the "Italian" restaurants that is in name only. I had the orecchiette with sausages and it was top notch. Bread... More

I honestly felt like I was walking into a place where I didn't belong. Traveling on business I eat alone quite often and hate to be put into a corner. As the saying goes "nobody puts baby in the corner!" I asked for a table by the window but the manager refused to seat me there. Never mind that there... More

Pricey for the food they served us. Honestly, we didn't like the food, the restaurant itself lacks character and the service needs to improve. I regret going to that place!

A bit pricey, can be a bit noisy, but the food is very good, and the staff warm & friendly. My next visit I will venture a bit further, but I've enjoyed a couple dinners at Ristorante Umbria.

I went here w/my teenage daughter while on vacation. The first thing we noticed is that it was an authentic Italian restaurant. The staff and owner are from Italy. There was a slight standoffish attitude but we didn't really care. The salmon carppaccio was good as was the tiramisu and chocolate mouse. My pasta dish of fusilli pasta with sundried... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
