A bit pricey, can be a bit noisy, but the food is very good, and the staff warm & friendly. My next visit I will venture a bit further, but I've enjoyed a couple dinners at Ristorante Umbria.

I went here w/my teenage daughter while on vacation. The first thing we noticed is that it was an authentic Italian restaurant. The staff and owner are from Italy. There was a slight standoffish attitude but we didn't really care. The salmon carppaccio was good as was the tiramisu and chocolate mouse. My pasta dish of fusilli pasta with sundried... More

A bit expensive for the portions. Overall, very good food and service. We would come back. Gnocchi was very good. Pizza was good also.

I nearly didn't get to write this review since I rarely warm to a restaurant that starts the conversation with "We can't serve you Lasagne after 9.30pm as the oven has been turned off". This was at 9.32pm on a Saturday evening!!!! Despite arguing that 1)9.30 is a little early to be closing down the menu offerings, and 2) It... More

Someone in our travel group suggested trying this restaurant just a block away from our hotel. So glad they did- it was wonderful and so good in fact we ate there twice during our stay. Service was excellent as was the food and wine list. Much of the pasta was homemade and delicious! Our second dinner here was to try... More

From the moment the owner greets you to the restaurant to the time you finish dessert this is an amazing dining experience. Nice cozy Italian restaurant close to the IMAX, downtown, and bars. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. A must visit when you come to San Francisco.

Simple tasty Italian food - fresh ingredients and reasonable prices. Take out if you can't manage all of the generous portions. Will definitely visit again on another business trip. Superb Creme caramel!

Went here with a business group. We were impressed with the neighborhood feel of the place. Our server was superb. Looked like a local favorite. They made adjustment to menu item for me, very happy to do so. My friend loves osso bucca (sp ?). He said it may be the best he's ever had. Very bold statement. Next time... More

We found this restaurant on our first night in town and were amazed at the food. The calamari is the best in town, the pasta dishes were just like Nonna cooks. Our three young adult sons were very impressed with the food and the quality. The wait staff were very efficient. We couldn't wait to go back for a second... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
