Despite the inattentive service, overpriced cocktails and food that doesn't entirely deliver, the Tonga Room is now my absolute favorite place on earth. You really can't beat the atmosphere, it's like being on a cruise minus the whole thing where cruises are lame and you're stuck on them for weeks on end. Definitely get a pool side table and leave... more

We stayed at the Fairmont for 5 nights and went to the Tonga room for dinner on our penultimate night with our two teenagers. We stayed at The Fairmont for 5 nights and then on our last night decided to check out The Tonga. It was really fun. Wish we went one night prior since the portions were so big, we would have loved to eat our leftovers for lunch the next day but had to fly home the next morning. Great live music... more

It was my visit #5, I know some think it's cheasy, but I like it for special occasions. Our adult children dance and eat, all 6 of us liked the food, found the service great, but food slow in arriving. Loved the Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel. We were staying next door at the Mark Hopkins (nice hotel) and didn't want to spend the money on their prefixe dinner, so we headed over to the Tonga Room. This is a themed restaurant, and from receiving the Lei at the door to the 'Thunderstorm' ( rain over the pool, fake lightening ) it is well done. The food is all Polynesian and carries on the theme. College friends who now live in San Francisco brought me here for drinks when I was in town for a conference. It was the perfect spot to sit back and get reacquainted after ten years.
