We did not eat here, but you can bring children in to eat. There is a band on a "boat" in the middle of the pool. Very fun for adults and children alike. Watch out, tho.... very expensive drinks!

Visiting here with our son who lives in SF - at his recommendation. Excellent place, amazing atmosphere and the band were brilliant. The food was delicious, and the cocktails very impressive. Don't know what else to say really, the best night out in SF :)

Hand crafted drinks are delicious! A little taste of the tropics, drinks are not just poured, but crafted. The pork bellly sliders are some of tge beat things I have eaten.

I read about this historic location on the Internet and decided my wife and I had to give it a try. I would give this location a "very good" rating for the service and decor however, the drinks and food were way overpriced and not that good. The decor is 1940's tropical/Hawaiian and it takes you back in time while... More

Loved the atmosphere, the sound of water drowned out the noise of large groups. Food great, cocktails packed a punch, staff very courteous. We had made a reservation for 7Pm and then had to change and they accommodated us for earlier. Great experience.

Came with high expectations, but the food was a little disappointing. We went on a Friday night so the band was playing - they where great

Hubby and I stopped in for drinks and there was some kind of convention at the hotel so the bar was full of people's luggage and packed with people...but the atmosphere was really cool...very themed inside and they serve a "Fish Bowl" drink for two that was really, really good

After many trips to San Francisco I was beginning to think that there were no truly bad restaurants. Then I found the Tonga Room in The Fairmount Hotel on Nob Hill. We visited during happy hour to find a cheesy room with faux lightning which could only interest little children. The cocktail specialties tasted like soda pop and the buffet... More

Completely incongruous though it is for a tacky polynesian style bar with fake thunderstorm sounds and rain to be in one of the most famous and upscale hotels in San Fran (The Fairmont), we had a great time there. Good drinks, arrived relatively quickly and great (albeit supremely tacky) setting. Just one suggestion for improvement, rather than not explicitly call... More

My 2nd time at the Tonga room. The first time was in the 80's at the nadir before the revamp. Now it is a 1940's night club freeze-dried and made family friendly. It is a fun and kitschy experience for visitors. We were there alongside a tour group that was having a great time on the dance floor. The band... More
