I went here because my high school contemporaries were waxing poetic about fond memories of the Tonga room from their childhoods. It's in the basement of the Fairmont, and seemed kind of old and tired compared to, say, Trader Vic's, which has a similar concept. I was not impressed with the food, and glad we were too early for the... More

Food and drinks were great. Pool was in the restaurant and it had a thunder and lighting show with rain. Fabulous!

The ambience - sitting around the water and the rainstorms complete with lightning and thunder! The cuisine is Pacific Islander and delicious.

I saw this place on a TV show and when I heard my wife was taking me to the city for my birthday I told her I wanted to have dinner at the Tonga room. She made reservations and they put us right next to the pool. Great table. Well we had a blast. We shared a drink in a... More

My partner and I went for a romantic dinner based on a recommendation and we were not disappointed! The servers were quick to pour water after we were seated and present menu's. We tried the Mai Tai first which is their signature drink and it was delicious! The menu had a really good selection of options, things you won't find... More

Pricey dinner but food was excellent and not just the usual island fare. The Tonga room is a real gem.

We went to the Tonga room for drinks before dinner. The drinks were very strong and we felt they were over priced.

OK, its famous. A storied history. I really unique interior and concept. I'm glad I went, just to see it. But the only food was the buffet for 45 frickin' dollars. Give me a break -- and it was nothing special. The band was playing 70's hits, they were talented but the musical choices not the greatest for my ears.... More

The Tonga Room has been around forever. The decor is pretty tacky. There's a swimming pool in the middle of the restaurant. BUT the food is great. I would recommend the Mongolian Beef. The bar tender also makes a mean piña colada. Overall, very fun. Go if you're looking for music and a good time.

We just stopped off for drinks, not dinner, but they were good, service was great, and the place is fun to see. It's a complete Polynesian theme, and feels like you're in Disney or on the set of an old James Bond film. It's mostly older folks (50-65), so if you want somewhere young and trendy, this isn't your spot.
