Kitschy gem

Retro heaven.....if you can get in. Book well ahead or hope for a seat in the bar area. Band was versatile but not that great when I was there.....you will love it when rain falls from the ceiling.

This bar/restaurant is in the gorgeous Fairmont Hotel. The Tonga Room is a very lively and fun scene with a floating band in a Tiki bar atmosphere with a dance floor. This place is fun but also has decent food and drinks. My friends ordered several tropical drinks and everyone felt that there were booze in them and they tasted... More

I was so excited to try the Tonga room and had read all about it. We took a cab there from our hotel while visiting from out-of-town, walked in and got to the host stand where they proceeded to (rudely) let us know that the entire place was rented out for the evening. Now, no one had arrived yet and... More

Very cool place to get drinks maybe an appetizer. The entertainment is what you go for. Nice place to meet before dinner or after.

On the "C" Level (read Cellar) of the Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill in San Francisco, you will find a Tiki Bar that will take you back to early Marriott days and the infamous Kona Kai. Same fish nets, same carved totems, same little umbrellas in the drinks....you get the picture. First a Pupu platter for the table...my 9-yr old... More

We enjoyed a great meal with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Food was good and the service at our table prompt. The floating entertainment provides for a unique take on house band. Good choice of food on the menu, for drinks we preferred to avoid the cocktails as they didn't appear good value. The only downside on the evening... More

Service and Ambiance were exceptional. The food was a solid B. This is a place of go for the experience. They create thunderstorms while your eating with rain into the pool. Dinner for 4 around including 4 drinks $400 after tip

For what it is the Tonga Room is a beautiful thing. I've been to many a Tiki bar in many a towns--nothing tops the Tonga. The know how to pour a drink in this place. Tip: order the bowls for two or four and save coin and get ripped.

The Tonga Dining room is fun experience. The decor is unique and the rain storm adds a fun element to dinner. There are nights were a band plays live music while floating on a raft in the pool- I would highly recommend going on a night when they play- great band! I would also suggest a reservation- we walked right... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
