Very cool experience, highly recommend!

This restaurant offers a neat experience, definitely worth checking out and having a drink at the bar or even have a dinner. The food is great and the entertainment is an added bonus! Not the kind of place I usually attend but we had just gotten into town after a cross country flight and the Tonga Room was across the street from our hotel. I had heard about it on Anthony Bourdain's Layover series, and considering its in the Fairmont hotel, in the city of San Francisco (where great restaurants abound), I figured... More

We went here because it's in the Fairmont Hotel and because Anthony Bourdain highly recommended it. Granted he only drank alcohol on the show however even those drinks were horrible because they fill it up with ice so you get only about two sips. You have to wait to get in and when you finally do get a seat in... More

The happy hour crowd here is quite busy. It starts at 5pm and they have a good looking buffet as well. The bar tenders were very nice and the drinks were quite good. The room itself was pretty cool with rain and thunder happening during your seating. This would be a great place to meet for a drink after work... More

On the pricy side but well worth a visit Anybody venturing into the pool will be expelled, or so I'm told. If your favourite cocktail isn't on the list the guys will be more than happy to make it off the cuff for you

The hotel recommended this restaurant because we travelled with young kids, and my kids didn't like it at all (neither the food, nor the "entertainment"). We ourselves didn't enjoy it either. Dishes were very expensive for what they were (I ordered a papaya salad expecting it to contain fresh fruit, but it was a cabbage salad with some slices of... More

This is the real deal! The old school tropics themed restaurant that the family and especially the young kids will love. And why not....it has a full pool in the middle of the restaurant that every table has a perfect view of. As well as a tropical storm or shower during your meal complete with low rumbling thunder. Its a CROSS... More

The Tonga Room is a fabulous place to go and have some fun. We had some beverages and the buffet. The drinks were some of the best around. Ours came in a really large glass that we got to share. The buffet was very tasty with quite a few choices. The tiki themed bar is abundant with its decorations of... More

The drinks and entertainment are worth the admission. It is certainly worth a visit. We did not dine there and cannot comment on the food.

Dating back to 1945 this retro Tiki Bar will blow your mind! Thatched tables surround an Olympic sized pool where the resident band plays from a floating raft. The fake thunder, lightning and rain showers are a blast!

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
