Ok, so I've seen the negative reviews, and I think they are unwarranted. The Tonga Room is a San Francisco treasure. ...or simply for a good time and a smile (cynics may want to find another venue for the evening). Fairmont pool turned into a tiki bar post WWII... the menu will give you the history. Fun fact that you'll read in every review- band plays on a barge in the middle of the pool, moving forward or backward between sets/breaks.... More

You can't help but be happy at the Tonga Room Happy Hour. The Happy Hour is Wednesday through Friday from 5 to 7. Get there a little early as it is popular. Once you are in you find yourself in a tropical setting complete with an afternoon storm of thunder, lightening and rainfall. Too much fun! The buffet is very... More

We were really looking forward to our visit & it started off good.. The Royal Papu mixed appetiser was delicious. We both enjoyed everything. However the main of Kung pao chicken was almost inedible. It tasted very strongly of something I have never ever tasted before & although I tried to eat it as I was hungry, I couldn't finish... More

Went here for a birthday and loved the decor. It's retro and a little cheeky but that adds to the charm. The drinks are in cool coconut and pineapple cups. I suggest any one off the menu. You won't be disappointed. Tri tip was great!

A friend recommended Tonga to me. I was very skeptical, but trust this friend implicitly so had to check it out. It was a total throw back in time, loved how it's in the basement of the staid, fancy Fairmont. Hadn't been to a tiki bar / restaurant since I was a kid, this did not disappoint. Loved the decor,... It is worth a visit . To see a Hawaiian cover band belting out an eclectic mix of songs from Gloria Estefan via Santana to the Proclaimers from a boat on an indoor pool complete with rain showers isn't something you see every day. Food was just dire , I mean really poor. Drinks not that expensive. Order the Char... More

quirky restaurant. cool pool and rainstorms that happen intermittently which adds to the tropical ambience. It is a must to experience as it is a classic, but the food was way below standards for a high end hotel. you could get better at a fast food restaurant

We had a group of 100 with mostly teens and the evening was spectacular as a final outing in the city. The food was spectacular and the lighting was perfect for our banquet with awards...perfect spot... our tour buses dropped us all off at the top of the hill... what a view... .a very special evening.. thanks to the Fairmont... Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
