Old school breakfast

This little place is no frills. They have a fun sign declaring no lettuce or tomato. I got a breakfast quesadilla which was boring, but my friend's burger on sourdough was awesome!

Our fish and chips , meatball sandwich and chili burger were all terrible. The fries were good. Stale buns on sandwiches just no flavor. No seasoning. Sad, I wanted to find a fun, tasty dive. Not it.

Everyone told us we couldn't miss this place for the best hamburgers in San Francisco. We ordered the cheeseburgers which were served on sourdough bread. We would have preferred a regular bun, but I guess this is traditional for SF. The burger size is swamped by the huge bread. We were disappointed in the flavor and taste. The order of... More

Good food (try the onion rings) and cheap drinks make this a favorite place to stop before the game. Whether you're local or just visiting you'll feel right at home here. This dive bar is an institution, go check it out.

There underneath the Bay Bridge at Pier 30 sits an old shack on rotting piers. It belongs to the Portmof San Francisco. It is all that is left of an old huge set of warehouses burnt down in the mid 1980's. The fireboats surrounded the burning dock but made sure that Red's would survive. That is because Thr Original Red,my... More

Recently moved to San Francisco and it turns out we can see this place from where we live. People have been telling me for weeks that I just had to try it. So, I did. Went in the other day and had a cheeseburger. The place has certain funky charm, and the pictures are interesting. And, I guess the "patio"... More

The family was looking for an inexpensive meal and saw the reviews for this place so we decided on burgers for lunch. I can get past the fact it looks to not have been maintained for 50 years but there were more flies inside than there were outside. For lunch we ordered a chili dog, chili burger and a cheeseburger.... More

Enjoy the walk around the coastline and just pop in. walls lined with old photos and stuff. Places like this should be preserved forever and are the complete opposite of corporate starbucks and mcdonalds etc. Over 100yrs old, looks it but a classic. This is a place you will love or hate. If you are of an independent mind and... More

I have to admit, I'm bemused by the in-depth discussions of the Java House food offering from my fellow reviewers. As a vegetarian and as someone whose aim is to survive middle age, dining here is not an option for me, and I suppose an in-depth philosophical discussion of the merits chili dogs is par for the course here in... Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
