I have to admit, I'm bemused by the in-depth discussions of the Java House food offering from my fellow reviewers. As a vegetarian and as someone whose aim is to survive middle age, dining here is not an option for me, and I suppose an in-depth philosophical discussion of the merits chili dogs is par for the course here in... Red'a Java House is an institution on the San Francisco waterfront. Been there since it was a working waterfront. Great place for breakfast and views of the bay and the Bay Bridge

I guess it depends on your expectations. I really like it when I'm in the mood for it. Kind of dingy, kind of rough on the edges, but solid food and beer. "Solid" meaning not special but hits the spot. I like the burgers but I really like the chili dog. It's greasy, hot, and delicious. The cup of fries... More

Cool little spot with a view of the bay and the bay bridge. Great burgers and cheap beer. Bartenders are friendly and hilarious. Great for lunch or an afternoon beer.

Stopped by Reds Java House for a Double with cheese, fries and a drink. It's a cozy old school place with patio area in the back. I imagine its huge at game time although we got right in for lunch with a line forming behind us while waiting. Burger was huge on a sourdough loaf. It was tasty, greasy and... More

I made a mistake here. I read all about Red's Java House being an iconic dive that Giants fans pile in to before games and instead of doing just that (we went to a game while were there) I chose to take us just after opening time when there were just a few workmen getting an early lunch. So no... More

Eat here every time I'm in town. I get the cheeseburger on french sourdough roll for breakfast. You can not beat this burger for breakfast. The essential SF burger!

Iconic SF spot to visit! Burgers on sour-dough rolls. Eat out back on the water. Fun! Totally casual, somewhat disorganized but a classic!

Don't expect anything fancy when you go here, but it is worth a lunch visit. This small restaurant is located at Pier 30, but this site links to a different restaurant at Pier 40. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. We showed up for a late lunch, so it was not busy. The hamburgers were good, but the... More
