Affectionately known as the "Paris of the West," Cafe Claude is a San Francisco institution. Situated on one of the city's hidden alleys, Claude Lane, Cafe Claude offers a taste of France, with classic bistro dishes at lunch and dinner, a full bar, and an affordable wine list. On warm days, linger on the patio and enjoy a rare dose of sunshine, or a warming bowl of onion soup or coq au vin inside. On weekends, the restaurant comes alive with live jazz from 7 to 10pm, Thursday through Saturdays.

We decided on French food for our first night in San Francisco. We stayed at the Marriott at Union Square which is a 5 minute walk to the restaurant. We would have walked much further for such a good meal. The restaurant is cozy, but doesn't feel overcrowded at all. It's a fun atmosphere and the jazz music really adds... More

Very attentive staff, but our dishes were expensive for what they were. Coq au vin, sauce had a pleasant flavor but the veg and meat didn't seem right...not horrible...just, well, meh. The pappardelle with duck, again, everything had nice flavor and really tasty noodles but overall not presented well. It was a big glop of food in a bowl, and... More

5 friends who had traveled together in Sicily together years ago met again for a charming lunch. It was a perfect reunion place, with excellent service and food. I had the poulet roti (pictured - $22), and we all had cocktails and wine. The roast chicken was generous (a leg and a breast) and the sauce was delightful. Animated conversation... More

My daughter and I visited Cafe Claude while in town for a few nights. We were looking for a "French" style restaurant. This was perfect. Great ambiance and a delicious meal from the French style menu. My daughter had the steak with frites and a I had the trout. Both delicious and so were the pomes frites. Just like in... More

We ate at Cafe Claude last night upon the recommendation of the concierge at the Omni Hotel. I was looking for a bowl of french onion soup and a salad, something warm and light on a cold SF night. It was between it and Le Central, which the concierge described as "more traditional". Both look nice, the latter is a... More

Pretty decent and solid place, but also left me scratching my head a bit. First, the service was pretty good. We were seated fairly quickly by the hostess, who was just OK nice. The waiter did a nice job and was quite good. We spoke a tiny bit of French with him and he was very accommodating and humble -... More

About a year ago I had an opportunity to dine here and it was so memorable that I made sure to return on my next visit to San Francisco. I wasn't disappointed, the tartar was as good this time around as it was a year ago. there are not that many restaurants that serve tartar, even fewer that make it... More

Went here with a couple of friends - no reservation, but it was late lunch so we got a table right away. The atmosphere is cozy, the food very good. I got a roasted baby beet salad which was quite tasty. THe French bread for the table was crusty and tasty, the butter served with it nice and soft. Wait... More

I love the food and the ambiance in Cafe Claude. Located in an intimate alley in between the busy streets of San Francisco, it's a romantic and cozy setting for lunch or dinner. It makes you feel like you really are in a bistro in Paris. Today we had a late lunch and everyone except me ordered the Croque Madame.... More
