Affectionately known as the "Paris of the West," Cafe Claude is a San Francisco institution. Situated on one of the city's hidden alleys, Claude Lane, Cafe Claude offers a taste of France, with classic bistro dishes at lunch and dinner, a full bar, and an affordable wine list. On warm days, linger on the patio and enjoy a rare dose of sunshine, or a warming bowl of onion soup or coq au vin inside. On weekends, the restaurant comes alive with live jazz from 7 to 10pm, Thursday through Saturdays.

I have been visiting Cafe Claude for decades and it never disappoints. The vibe, service and food are five star--trendy yet warm and inviting. Must see to have that special San Francisco experience.

Ate here on Bastile Eve (that's not really a thing, I know) and had a great time. They had a prix fixe menu that was excellent and a great value. Very nice French wines on the wine list. But really, I think it was the service that shined. From the bar, the hosts and especially the waiter they were all... More

This in one of our favorite places when we have an event or theater near Yerba Buena or Union Square. The mussels are as fine as any in San Francisco, the oyster soup was perfection. My wife had the four-course special with that oyster soup, duck canard, salad and one incredible desert. My corn soup with cantaloupe was amazing. My... More

We've enjoyed Cafe Claude in the past. Why else would we be here again? First, we had poor service on a Tuesday night. Our waiter also doubled as the bartender. leaving him little time to do both adequately. The salad was basically just lettuce. The trout was over-smothered with green beans, thus overpowering any flavor. We will not be back... More

We've dined here many times, counting Claude as one of our hometown faves. Unfortunately, tonight's dinner was totally disappointing. The entree special, roasted quail, was lackluster, small bony pieces of quail with no skin, tasted boiled more than roasted, devoid of flavor (I resorted to double sprinkling of salt). Accompanied by potato au gratin (good) and squash (undercooked and tasteless).... More

We loved the Steak Tartare prepared tableside and the ambience was nice with a jazz quartet playing live music. The service was friendly and helpful. Unless you love Creme Brulee, the dessert menu was a little limiting.

We ordered three entrees: 1) Truite Amandine, which is a trout with toasted almonds, haricot verts, golden raisins, capers, and meuniere sauce, in my opinion was the best dish. The presentation of the dish was not very fancy, and it's a bone-in fish dish. When you're paying so much for dinner, I expected a lot more. 2) Confit de Canard,... More
