Wonderful duck.

Yes, it is a bit expensive; but, it was very good. We went in as it had a picture of Obama getting food there. Very prompt service. The Peking duck was very good - they could have been more generous with the onions and sauce. We also enjoyed the egg rolls and the sauteed bean greens.

While in San Francisco, I wanted real Chinese food, of the kind I remembered from by youth when we lived in Asia for two years. By that, I mean that real Chinese isn't anything like the strip mall Chinese food found in most of America. Thanks to our hotel Concierge, we settled on a night visit to China Town. We... More

The restaurant we previously used for Dim Sum when visiting the area has gone out of business and this restaurant was recommended by a Chinese Woman in a small shop a few blocks away as her favorite; it has now become our favorite. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is excellent. After being seated you can pick from... More

We had dim sum for lunch yesterday at Great Eastern, something we will repeat soon. The food rivals that of Yank Sing for quality but Great Eastern wins the flavor contest easily at a much lesser price. The various steamed dumplings, chow fun, and hot and sour soup were standouts. The service is by menu and not carts. However, the... More

We have lunch here many times before. The dim sum are authentic. great taste, not too expensive,. They have all dim sum that you want. the quality of dumplings is un-paralleled . We will go back here soon. The only thing that they need to improve is giving their customers mustard and pepper oil.

We went here based on the recommendation of out cab driver. There was a long line outside so we joined it - only to be told about 5 minutes later that we had to go inside and grab a ticket. It was bitterly cold outside so we waited inside once we'd got our ticket which was crowded and noisy but... More

Visiting San Francisco X'mas, we had high expectations for a good meal in a Chinese restaurant because of the long history of Chinese settlements here. We are so wrong! Dinner at the Great Eastern was Bismal. Poorly prepared food plated without imagination nor care, minimal service from hurried servers which seemed to be normal practice in most Chinatown restaurants, dirty... More

This is not a huge dim sum parlor as some can be, and not some tiny take out only, as the places which were ranked more highly proved to be. The food was very good and quite inexpensive. We looked like one of only a few tables of tourists.

My cousin lives in a East Bay small suburban town and dying for some good chinese. So daughter selected this. We all walked through the Financial District to have an excellent lunch: Dim Sum and regular plates, nice table, tasty and we had a great time. In the heart of Chinatown and Santacon was on. What a fun experience.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
