Excellent Bolognese Sauce!

We had about a 1/2 hour wait to be seated, but were able to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine to pass the time. I had an excellent gnocchi with bolognese sauce (large portion) and my husband had a very tasty pizza.

The atmosphere and service were very good. It felt just like you would want a neighborhood cafe to feel. We visited for lunch after checking into a nearby hotel. I had linguine vongole and my wife had local sole. Each dish was good, but the sole had a bit much butter, detracting from the flavor of the fish. The linguine... More

We are riding the cable cars and asked alocal girl where she would suggest that we went to eat. she lived in the Nob Hill district and suggested the Nob Hill café. she said we may have to wait for a little bit because it was a small place however when we got there we walked right in the door.... Visited here twice and on both occasions there was at least a 20 minute wait for a table - this seems normal irrespective of when you visit - probably due to the fact prices are reasonable in an area of expensive restaurants. Recommended

My wife and i enjoyed dining at the Nob Hill last week before a concert at the Masonic. It is a small venue, with Italian dishes located on Taylor St. They do not take reservations and open at 5 p.m. If you wish to dine there I would suggest either get there when then first open or be prepared to... Recommended by our hotel concierge. Long line as they do not take reservations. But once we got in, the food and service was wonderful. Be ready for a busy, noisy experience. We spoke with everyone at the tables around us and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Stopped by for a family lunch. My wife and I arrived first. Were told they couldn't seat or serve us until everyone arrived. Said it was "the rules." We said we were there and were ready to be seated. Refused again by a second waitress, citing "the rules." Ms aid we would find someplace else. Waitress said "fine." Worst service... More

We stayed near here and there was always people waiting outside. Looked like many locals as well as tourists. So we had high hopes. It is walk in only, no bookings. The wait was well managed ( 25 minutes for us), with a drink and a menu. We got a table in the window, so we were very happy. But... More

Very small, intimate restaurant. But it is very charming, and the food is excellent. Just have a glass of wine and wait outside for a table. The pizza is terrific.

We were looking for some relatively basic Italian food and were recommended to Nob Hill. We went early (6:15) as we were told it fills up and then you're on a wait. That's good advice. The place is small and cozy and very neighborhood in feel, and the smells as the door opens are quite pleasant. We were seated and... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
