Thank God I did not read the yelp reviews before ordering food here. All the 1 and 2 stars are laughable. I had dinner and breakfast here and Oh MY, the best food I had in a very long time!!! Dinner: I had mushroom soup and the squash gnocchi with roasted apples and brussel sprouts. Both excellent, while the soup... More

At the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in the Union Square district, Scala's Bistro is located. It is magnificently decorated with high ceiling and wooden wall style. Food is delicious, service, excellent and wine selection is good. The best of all to us is their Cesar Salad and linguini with clam sauce "Vongole" in Italian ~ One of the best I... More

My Mother-in-law loves this place so we are here every month and always has nicely prepared and delicious brunch. Some of our favorites are- Arugula & Kale salad( with Persimmons), Cured Meats( Great Prosciuttos and Coppa Picante), Pork Lion are very good, and Seared Swordfish are one of the best in California. The services are excellent. We are always happy... More

This is one of those restaurants in a hotel that is actually good. The dining room is beautiful with a high ceiling in a art deco style. I chose the prix fixe menu and had soup, a pesto ravioli and a ice cream dessert. Also ordered a box of the chocolates made by the chef which are unique and only... More

Centrally located in the Union Square district in the Sir Francis. I booked a rsvp upon my arrival for the same night and got a table. Service was great. The bar was packed but managed to get a drink before our table was ready. I dined with my daughter. We didn't get bread with the table, not sure why but... More

This has been one of our go-to dining places when visiting SF's union square. Before doing the shopping rounds, my wife agreed to have lunch first. She ordered one of the specials for the day: risotto with crabs and scallops. Excellent choice. I opted for the prix fixe lunch - mushroom zuppa and duck confit. It included a dessert. Quite... More

A last minute gateway to union square San Francisco. We made reservations with open table 3 hours in advance for Saturday night at 6:45 pm. We arrived at Scala's at 6:40 pm and are table was ready. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and pleasant. We ordered oysters as the appetizer along with a small sausage cheese pizza. For... More

My wife went with her friends, on a Friday night... The menu looked interesting, on TripAdvisor, (after the fact) but my wife decided, without calling me, to surprise me with a chef's Brussels Sprouts pasta "specialty" that was anything but special... It was both expensive and inedible... I threw it out... Based on this one dish alone,I'll never go there... More
