Lovely old-world dinner

We wanted to eat at a different, but old-world different kind of place, without having to cash in a paycheck, and this place was perfect. A group of us went, and everyone was very pleased with the French fare and delightful ambiance. A real winner in our book.

Le Charm is by far my favorite French Bistro in San Francisco, and it is awesome that I live only a block away! Lena, the proprietress, is always so gracious and her staff serves up some very tasty French favorites. The menu is not extensive yet has a nice list of meats, fish and vegetarian options that are always perfectly... More

My only complaint is that there are so many wonderful choices on the menu that it would be impossible to try them all.My wife and I dined here several months ago.We had to try it again to confirm that it was as good as we remembered. It was. Again we were treated to a magnificent meal. I had the chicken... More

Love this place!!! I have been coming here since 1997. We eat here at least 4 times a year. Great authentic food. Feels like you are in France. Very reasonable prices for the quality of food.

You can't miss here if you are looking for authentic french cooking. I chose the prefixe option. I started with a warm chicken liver salad which was so wonderful that I will return just to have it again. Secondly I chose the mushroom risotto which was prepared to perfection. For dessert I had ice cream profiteroes which were perfect. All this... More

french bistro run by a french chef and his vietnamese wife. guests are welcomed (at least in our case, having gone many times) like family, and the food is pure french comfort, classic in every way. no liquor license but offering choices of beer and a decent wine list, this is a good place to relax and be satisfied. staff... Lovely private space available for a party or rehearsal dinner. The tented and nicely heated patio was perfectly comfortable on a chilly San Francisco evening. Owners are delightful and will make your event run smoothly and provide wonderful food for your guests. Our prix fixe Rehearsal dinner for 30 was delicious, served beautifully and reasonably priced! The passed appetizers were... More

This is one of the other place in the city that we always go, when my family visit. In this case, I meant all grown ups. The food is consistently good, the servers are friendly and "real French". For a decent French Bistro, Le Charm is probably the best in the city with a decent price. I will recommend to... More

Ate here recently and found the experience to be well below expectation. Service was not at all good (some might term it rude), and the food at best average. To top it all off, when we ordered the three course meal, and asked to pospone selection of a specific dessert until after the entree, we were told this was not... More

Came with my wife and we were seated at a crappy table with cheap chairs (different from the others). We had a reservation, so not sure why this happened. The service was just adequate. The food, however, was excellent. My wife and I really enjoyed our main meals.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
