Hidden Gem French Bistro

Former Le Charm, recently changed ownership and is now Mathilde Bistro. We were staying in the SOMA area and found this little gem. Don't visit San Francisco with going to Mathilde (formerly Le Charm). The meal was exquisite, as was the service. We can't say enough good things!

Very important note: this restaurant is no longer Le Charm, it's now called Mathilde French Bistro, Yelp already says it, but Trip Advisor did not take note of the new name yet. In any case, the food is simply excellent, dining in the patio is a wonderful experience, I hight recommend it,e ben if it's bit overpriced

We have always loved this incredible, romantic and delicious neighborhood gem. Mathilde has just re-opened the restaurant formerly known as Le Charm and all the best qualities of the bistro remain as strong and charming as ever! GREAT menu choices, GREAT service, WARM interior, LOVELY patio, FABULOUS preparation! 5 stars all the way!

Le Charm has now become Mathilde Bistro. Same charm and same excellence. It seems to be a seamless transition to new management. We shared a chicken liver salad that was out of this world. The pommes frites with my steak were perfect. My wife's Coq au Vin was delicious. Le Charm was our favorite Restuarant in our neighborhood. Now MATHILDE... More

We wanted to eat at a different, but old-world different kind of place, without having to cash in a paycheck, and this place was perfect. A group of us went, and everyone was very pleased with the French fare and delightful ambiance. A real winner in our book.

Le Charm is by far my favorite French Bistro in San Francisco, and it is awesome that I live only a block away! Lena, the proprietress, is always so gracious and her staff serves up some very tasty French favorites. The menu is not extensive yet has a nice list of meats, fish and vegetarian options that are always perfectly... More

My only complaint is that there are so many wonderful choices on the menu that it would be impossible to try them all.My wife and I dined here several months ago.We had to try it again to confirm that it was as good as we remembered. It was. Again we were treated to a magnificent meal. I had the chicken... More

Love this place!!! I have been coming here since 1997. We eat here at least 4 times a year. Great authentic food. Feels like you are in France. Very reasonable prices for the quality of food.

You can't miss here if you are looking for authentic french cooking. I chose the prefixe option. I started with a warm chicken liver salad which was so wonderful that I will return just to have it again. Secondly I chose the mushroom risotto which was prepared to perfection. For dessert I had ice cream profiteroes which were perfect. All this... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
