Fun place for dinenr

Fun jazz restaurant in the business district. Great atmosphere and the food was pretty good but a little under seasoned. Popular so best to book. Not cheap.

After I finished grad school a few years ago, I built a strong network of grad school friends. We promised to meet at least once a month to catch up on our lives, careers etc. For the first year, we did pretty well and kept that promise. Then our lives took over and one of us moved further down the... More

I love the ambiance of the speakeasy era and this captures it perfectly! Singer divine and piano player amazing! Drinks and appetizers wonderful. Food bland and not worth the cost to me. So go there sit at the bar soak in the ambiance and music have some appetizers with a wonderful wine or nice drink!!! perfect start to an evening... More

I wanted a quiet but elegant restaurant for a leaving dinner for a work colleague. Bix was perfect. Adult but playful. Solidly good but not spectacular. Tasty food, some fine wines and oysters and champagne. Staff were attentive and friendly. Drinks were well made and conversation between 5 of us was easy. The retro feel is nice and laid back.

Good quality restaurant in an historic building serving great cocktails and food. Set in an attractive street this is the old assay office and a quirky attractive place. Quite romantic I thought. Had ceviche and fried chicken and both high quality. I liked this place.

On a business trip in SF and love to try different restaurants. Bix does not "accommodate" single diners at their tables. Apparently, you can only eat at the bar. So, while I did not actually eat here, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have been coming to Bix for years and have never and I mean never, have had a bad experience. The food is always tops and the martinis, well they are in a class of their own. I brought my 8 year old son for the first time and he was blown away on how the wait staff was so... More

We were hoping to dine at Cotogna but without a reservation it was not to be. The hostess recommended Bix, a short walk away, and so we ended up having a truly wonderful meal there instead. The lovely hostess at Bix gave us the best table in the house and we enjoyed delicious food and wine in a relaxed and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
