Boys Club Atmosphere Even Ladies Can Enjoy

Alfred's never fails to deliver a fine dining experience at the weekly Buckeroo Lunch Club on Thursday. Hand shaked martinis followed by steaks grilled to perfection harken to an earlier era of the three-martini lunch favored by bankers and clients alike - including this lady banker.

This place has been around for decades and is somewhat of a local institution. You won’t find it unless you really know where you going. It’s down an alley some where in the financial district. Feels like your going to a speak easy in the 1920’s. Inside it’s all dark wood and red everything. Just what you would expect. We... More

Last night my boyfriend and I took out some friends who were staying in Cub Quarters hotel nearby. What a great choice to come here for dinner! They loved the ambience, the excellent martinis, the attentive waiter, the fresh oysters, and the wonderful steak and lamb. I rarely eat beef, so I chose the 5 oz filet mignon as the... More

This is a very nice steakhouse. Beautifully decorated. Red walls with art ... makes me think of the 'Twiggy' era. They had a 'special' the night we were there - included a choice of steak, veggies, complimentary side, and dessert of your choice. $55/pp This is what my husband and I ordered (or thought we ordered). We had 2 glasses... More

The smell when we arrived to the restaurant was awful! It was old and not fresch at all! The waiter was rude! When I have question about the meny he looked me as I was retarded! Then when we have our steaks ordered medium rare they was mediun/ well done! When we complain to him he started a argument with... More

Don't let the exterior of this modest, windowless location fool you. Although it's on a side street next to the Hilton Financial District, in a spot that looks like an access road, the simple entrance and the Alfred's sign in front hide a wonderful surprise that awaits inside. Walking through the front door you're transported into a beautifully decorated dark... More

The food was absolutely outstanding! There is little more to say. Any fool can cook a medium-rare stead, but only an expert can cook Filet Mignon well done and not dry it out. Alfred's is such a place. Come hungry, but bring a fat wallet - the prices are quite high, and the mandatory 18% "gratuity" may be off-putting to... More

We had the 3 course special, it was outstanding. Service was prompt and attention to detail was superb. I ordered my NY steak medium, it was great but I wish it was a little more done, I should have ordered medium well. The caesar salad was large. We decided that we must not be a picky as most people who... More

The food was very good. The service was also very good. Not sure when anyone's ever gone to a restaurant and told that two things that they ordered weren't available and still feel good. The waiter did a nice job.

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
