Great ambience, okay food

My husband and I ate here on our last night in SFO. The service was perfect, great wine list, the wedge salad was delicious, but my steak dinner was just okay. My steak and veggies lacked seasoning, and I like a really well seasoned steak if I'm going to a steakhouse. I did notice their menu said... read more

Very Very good steak!!! The waiter was very gentle. The Mohitos didn't have a lot of Rum, but we asked for more and got the addition for free.

Nice happy hour. If you buy two drinks, you get a free appetizer. My friend and I really enjoyed the old-school charm of this place and would definitely go back.

We ate here last night & had a great meal. We all had steaks which were cooked to perfection. The portions were not the usual oversized amounts but just right for the meal. Good wine list reasonably priced. Couldn't fault the food or service. Highly recommended.

My sons who are great steak eaters rated this very highly, we have eaten in steakhouses around the world and the Tbone alla Fiorentina is one of the tastiest they have had, also try the mashed potatoes instead of fries you wont be disappointed. Although the gratuity is already included in the bill the quality of service could not be... More

Alfred's Steakhouse was a great steak dinner with a throw-back ambiance. The service was very efficient, friendly, and helpful. The steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious! The chocolate bread pudding was fabulous!

This place has been around for decades and is somewhat of a local institution. You won’t find it unless you really know where you going. It’s down an alley some where in the financial district. Feels like your going to a speak easy in the 1920’s. Inside it’s all dark wood and red everything. Just what you would expect. We... More

Alfred's never fails to deliver a fine dining experience at the weekly Buckeroo Lunch Club on Thursday. Hand shaked martinis followed by steaks grilled to perfection harken to an earlier era of the three-martini lunch favored by bankers and clients alike - including this lady banker.

Last night my boyfriend and I took out some friends who were staying in Cub Quarters hotel nearby. What a great choice to come here for dinner! They loved the ambience, the excellent martinis, the attentive waiter, the fresh oysters, and the wonderful steak and lamb. I rarely eat beef, so I chose the 5 oz filet mignon as the... More

This is a very nice steakhouse. Beautifully decorated. Red walls with art ... makes me think of the 'Twiggy' era. They had a 'special' the night we were there - included a choice of steak, veggies, complimentary side, and dessert of your choice. $55/pp This is what my husband and I ordered (or thought we ordered). We had 2 glasses... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
