Nice selection of steaks and side dishes

The food was very good. The service was also very good. Not sure when anyone's ever gone to a restaurant and told that two things that they ordered weren't available and still feel good. The waiter did a nice job.

The food was absolutely outstanding! There is little more to say. Any fool can cook a medium-rare stead, but only an expert can cook Filet Mignon well done and not dry it out. Alfred's is such a place. Come hungry, but bring a fat wallet - the prices are quite high, and the mandatory 18% "gratuity" may be off-putting to... More

We had the 3 course special, it was outstanding. Service was prompt and attention to detail was superb. I ordered my NY steak medium, it was great but I wish it was a little more done, I should have ordered medium well. The caesar salad was large. We decided that we must not be a picky as most people who... More

My boyfriend enjoyed the steak and I enjoyed the beef ravioli's - the appetizers and drinks were just as good. Very good flavors, enjoyed the evening and the food. Bonus!! The waiter was AWESOME!

Had the $55 set menu. All the food was really good. Services was great. The quality of food as 5 start with a 3 start price tag so that was enjoyable considering how expensive San Fran is.

So we did and it was a really lovely meal after a long day of travelling. Alfreds has an old world charm about it - which is nice to experience in todays world of fast and trashy. Attentive waiters, lovely food and the atmosphere was relaxed and quite. Very glad we went - many thanks.

I travel a great deal and have had great meals in many cities and in many steak houses, including Boston, Chicago, Seattle, LA and SF. However, the bone-in ribeye steak at Alfred's is one of the best and thickest I have ever enjoyed. The ambiance is fantastic and the host remarkable. He offered to give us an umbrella when we... I hadn't been to Alfred's in years, so it's gratifying to see that Alfred's remains one of the top steakhouses in SF. My N.Y. Steak was superb as was the Ahi Tuna Tartare appetizer. Alfred's is old-style comfortable and relatively quiet. Service very good. We had the Turnbull Cabernet which was very smooth. Great steak in the appropriate environment. Highly... More

We went in for a late dinner. It was very nice and the atmosphere was warm. Started out with a Caesar salad which was good and then had the 32 oz ribeye and lobster. The steak was a bit more charred then I would have preferred with no seasoning but, very tender. The lobster was delicious but a bit small... More

The truth about their service charge policy. We visited this restaurant tonight, the food was very good, full of bankers and financial people given its vicinity to the city however this is not the point. This establishment has a policy of forcing what they call "An 18% service charge", which could not be further from the truth, here is the... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
