We have been coming to Alfreds since 1992, back when they were on Broadway. Now they are located in the financial district in the space that used to be the Blue Fox. The drinks are very generous and the steaks consistently good. This evening we ordered the forty niner special . For $49 you get your choice of salad or... More

Alfred's Steakhouse is located in what would first appear in a non-descript location down a small alley. But, once you get inside the environment is pure old San Francisco steakhouse -- well dressed waiters, leather booths, dim lighting, a fantastic well-stocked bar. It dates back to the 1920's and has kept the atmosphere. So, if you are looking for "trendy",... More

I had never been to Alfred's but had visited many of the local steak/prime rib restaurants over the last 2 years. Local residents with some association to the financial district spoke highly of the food and the old style steak house look. They were right on. Apps like toasted garlic bread, prosciutto wrapped shrimp and calamari may lack for creativity... More

Although I left CA in 2000, I've probably been to Alfred's Steakhouse dozens of times, even the original location over the tunnel (!) and have never had a negative experience. This place still defines class from the moment you enter and are greeted by warm, personable people. The steaks are perfectly cooked, the sides are excellent, the salads are fresh... More

Advertisement descriptions for this restaurant use terms such as “Alfred’s ambiance radiates with the feel of true fine dining … the glow of dazzling chandeliers, starch white linens” and so on. This is all true, but our experience here one Thursday night was marred by being rushed. When booking on the restaurant internet site, we only had the choice of... More

Alfred's staff was extremely friendly and the food was great. It might be the best steak I've ever had in San Fran!

Had a very nice dinner here this week. This is a classicically atired room. Wood and tufted leather chairs. Very comfortable atmosphere for a formal dinner or classy casual. Very cool display of their dry aging beef at the front of the restaurant. My meal started with a ceasar with the romaine cut with only the middles served. My rib... More

We went here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, which I told them in advance. They did nothing special to acknowledge this. The service was awful, and my husband had to get up and ask the maitre'd for fresh ground pepper on our salads. You would have thought that would have given them a clue to be more attentive. We...
