"Established in 1849" - that's what it said, simply, on the bib that my wife was given to wear as she started on her seafood cioppino. The famous San Francisco stew was generously loaded with shrimp, prawns, mussels, clams, scallops and fish in a refreshing tomato gravy with two thick slices of garlic bread which were crisp on the outside,... The Tadich Grill was recommended as the oldest restaurant in San Francisco and having great seafood! It was all that and more. The entire experience was great; fried calamari appetizer, seafood saute and the Cioppino!!! Get there early to get on the list as there are no reservation. We found it to be a wonderful evening and even came back... More

I had the sand dabs on a visit this week. I enjoyed them, they are delicate and the tartar sauce they serve with them is perfect. The thick potato planks are also tasty. I would have loved to have chopping but can't eat that much on my own. I did see it and it looked wonderful. The guy next to... More

Alas and woe. I always loved my favorite Tadich Grill. But I took a friend back today after many years and found the wait service rude and unhelpful. So sad. Our waiter was brusque it was if he was Doing us a favor by serving us. He was harassed and literally tossed the food at us. I was appalled to... More

Had the flame grilled fish, it was incredibly good but not cheap. We sat at the bar as this restaurant does not have many tables so if you want to sit at a table prepare to wait.

If you want a true taste of old San Francisco you've got to stop by Tadich Grill. This restaurant is in the financial district and is called the Original Cold Day Restaurant. It's like a time warp when you walk in as the waiters are loud and boisterous. I sat at the long counter with my girlfriend which can be... More

Service is excellent. Fried calamari was a large portion and very tasty. I had the cioppino which was delicious but a big enough portion for two. My husband had sautéed prawns and seafood and said it was excellent. Oldest restaurant in san Francisco and still worth a visit.

We were here 3 years ago and came back last week. Our waiter, Barry was great. We sat at the bar since there was a wait for tables. Both of our meals were very good. And we love the atmosphere. Will return on our next visit to SF.

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
