Another "Best Thing I Ever Ate" recommendation

You might say this was a Tyler Florence-themed vacation. Not only did I eat at his restaurant: Wayfare Tavern, but I also dined at two of his recommendations from "Best Thing I Ever Ate": Hog Island Oyster Company and Tadich Grill. His pick here was the sand dabs, an entree I had never experienced... read more

A short wait at the bar was worth it. The bartenders are very friendly and efficient. The food is excellent. Next time in the city will be a must stop again.

This is an old school scene - picture Lauren Bacall, The Thin Man, you name it. I get the Oysters Rockefeller and then like to take the trolly up to the Big 4 restaurant across from Grace Cathedral. Great night or fun lunch time.

I love Tadich Grill. The waiters can be a bit surly - but that is part of the charm. Many of the staff have been there 20+ years. The fish and grilled meats are all fresh, the veggies unmasked by sauces, the wine list fairly long, and the drinks strong. I have been here for many business lunches and dinners... More

We have been here on a previous trip to San Francisco (some years ago) and it hasn't changed. The lay-out is a mixture of booths, seats at the bar and tables, and it feels a bit chaotic when you arrive. The place is dark wood and brass and the waiters are traditionally dressed with long white aprons. We went for... More

I worked in the City in the late-70s and early-80s and Tadich Grill was one of my go-to restaurants. Returned this afternoon with my 31 y/o son. Hard to believe this place is even better than before. Pan-fried petrale sole is to die for. Try to get a booth as the open seats and the bar can get a little... More

Husband and I went on a Thurs night around 7:30. Place was packed; they don't take reservations. To get to eat earlier we stood behind people eating at the bar instead of waiting on a table. Others were lined up waiting as well. We waited about 15 min. and ordered Clam Chowder first, which we ate with the sourdough bread... More

We haven't been to Tadich Grill for many years and decided to walk there from AT&T Park after a mid-day Giants game. We arrived a little before 5PM on a Thursday and were seated within a few minutes. After 5PM, the place quickly gets busy. Remember, no reservations taken! We started by sharing an order (6) Oysters Rock. that came... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
