A great hangout for fun and good food

We used to go there almost every Monday night with a few of my consultants to enjoy the fried calamari, other sied dishes and wine. The place is usually full so it is wise to have a reservation or arrive at a time before the crowds come. The oldest restaurant in the city doesn't... read more

This is SF's oldest operating restaurant and really enjoyed it. The food is comfort food, at least to me, and good. I wear hearing aids and was able to hear the people at my table without difficulty because of the many booths on the wall it had. The waiters were really efficient. would go again.

I visited this restaurant because of its 'oldest restaurant in SF' appeal. However, the location of the restaurant has only been less than 100 years. Tadich has been in the hands of the family and friends since the Gold Rush era, but I think the history is a bit misleading. The food was good. The most troubling aspect was the... More

Tadich Grill is one of the oldest (maybe the oldest) restaurants in San Francisco. Located in the Financial District, the place is authentic dining taking you back to when servers were a respected profession and specialty. The food is very good and the atmosphere is noisy and high energy. We've been back several times. Fun experience.

The place is an institution and has not changed a bit in the 35 years I have been visiting it. The fish is the draw and they really know how to prepare it. I had the Boston Chowder and the pan- fried Petrale Sole. Both were top- notch. The rest of my table were there for the first time and... More

A great experience - eating at the long bar of a traditional grill. It is absolutely packed - so arrive early to get a seat - especially if you're in a larger group. The steaks are very good - but I have had better elsewhere.

Tadich was referred to us when we asked for a good steak house, when we got there not only did they have great steaks but a full fish menu and being a fish lover this is what I went for. Food was great as was the service, great place to people watch especially as a UK visitor to the US.... More

I went there again in mid-February, and it is still quite good. The reviews talk about it being crowded and expensive with rude waiters. It was indeed crowded, but we got there early enough to avoid more than a few minutes' wait. The food was indeed expensive but very good, especially the straight fish plates. And our waiter was not... More

Came here with my folks over 30 years ago and this eatery is just as I remembered it: crowded, attractive wood decor, no nonsense waitstaff, broccoli and cauliflower side (ugh!), and fantastic seafood. I had the Chilean Sea Bass with a glass of the house Chardonnay. To die for! Next time I'll have them hold the steamed veggies.

This was our first time eating at the Tadich Grill. It was busy upon arrival. We submitted our name at the bar. To our surprise we were sitting down at a table within 10 minutes. This is an old school San Francisco restaurant. The waiters wear white coats & aprons. I ordered the charbroiled halibut with veggies. It was good.... More

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
