pork chops! :-)

I was given a strong recommendation by my client- a local to the bay area. Glad I took him up on it. Best pork chops I've had in a long, long, long time. A restaurant chain back home in Vancouver used to have a mongolian pork chop as one of it's signature dishes. They took it off the menu... read more

Sorry to say for the bucks you pay its just ok. Its good creative Asian comfort food. When we ate there there were a lot 3/4 of the restaurant was full of young Asian couples professional type. Its a small restaurant so make reservation, there was a waiting line when I left. It's very tight close seating. The food: its... More

I absolutely loved the food. Fresh, authentic and reasonably priced. Thought the place was small though with the tables crammed close together.

This is a small restaurant and the third time I have eaten here. The food is the highlight of dining at 'The House' and the flavours and dishes are amazing. However the experience is somewhat marred by squeezing way too many tables and people into this intimate restaurant. The service suffers because of this, and I don't think we got... More

We stopped by The House for an early Sunday supper before heading off to the airport. This small space with muted colours has that refined bistro feel to it. Arriving pretty much when they opened, we were offered several specials in addition to the decent selection of courses in the pan-Asian oriented menu. For starters we chose the octopus salad,... It leaves a bad taste. You can't eat trendy, but you can sell it. This is a great place for a Caucasian software designer (dressed in well-washed Levis and a plaid shirt) to take his new Chinese girlfriend. Fusion. What is being fused? Your money and The House's bank account. I tried four small plates. Fried calamari: it was calamari... More

Wow, was that one of the most disappointing meals I have experienced in a really long time. I not only write reviews, but I try to rely on the other reviews for recommendations. How in the world did this restaurant get such high reviews. Is the Asian fusion food so bad in San Francisco that this is the best. I... More

We arrived in San Fran yesterday and were advised The House was the best in town. When ordering I questioned if 2 dishes I ordered contained nuts as I have an allergy and was told no. When the food arrived I questioned again to double check and then was told it has pine nuts, and can I eat those!? Pine... More

This is a nice place with limited seating. We stopped in and it was quite busy -- the host agreed to call us when a table was ready for our table of 4. So we stopped next door for a drink. The menu is original and all the dishes are expertly prepared.

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
