Cheap(ish) and tasty

Came here on trip advisor recommendation as a good diner near our apartment. Not quite what we expected, place was almost empty when we arrived at about 7pm and its very much got a cafe feel. The place filled up as we ate though, and food and service very good. Chicken pitas were excellent.

My GF and I were visiting SF from Tennessee. We walked by in the afternoon and saw folks lined up on the sidewalk to get it, so we decided to come back in the evening. We arrived around 8:00 PM and were seated immediately. I had beef brisket, and she had a burger. We drank a California Pinot Noir. Wonderful... More

While walking from Lombard Street to the Ferry Building, we wandered by this grill and noticed the crowd of people lining up out the door and down the sidewalk, waiting to be seated for lunch. Wondering what the fuss was about, I glanced through the window to see a rotating circular grill. Burgers and chicken kabobs were slowly rotating on... More

My kids rate this the best meal in 3 weeks of travelling in the USA . I found this local diner in TA and I was the only tourist eating, this confirmed it . It is not fine dinning , but good family food , quick , good value and great atmosphere .

Nice clean burger place in north beach. Although burgers not the only item on menu, the two of us had fantastic burgers. Cooked to order, handmade burgers. Thick and juicy and messy. Sometimes the messier the burger, the better. Buns were fresh and excellent. We got soda, French fries, and burger, one plain, the other a tex mex. with tax... More

So glad we came across this place! We went in on a Monday morning for breakfast, and although the service was lacking a bit (place was busy, took around 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us, only one waitress working the whole place and you could see completed plates lined up and waiting to be delivered for several minutes). The... More

The breakfasts at Mo's are large, good tasting and are worthwhile to have. Mo's also serves big, good tasting burgers at a reasonable price. I ordered the meatloaf special and found it to be less desirable. The meatloaf was soft and mushy and had very little taste to it. The fries were also hard as a brick. I still would... More

Reviews of Mo's by locals and tourists alike made this a great little place for the preteens to experience dinner in a real "diner". Food was very good and service fantastic. Everything you want the neighborhood place to be as you explore the North Beach neighborhood.

Wandered in to this little gem on a Sunday evening with a party of 8. The food was delicious. Cold beers and milkshakes for the teenagers. Only one waitress on this evening but she did her absolute best to service the entire establishment. I'm definitely coming back.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
