Good Chinese food that doesn't cost a fortune

Chinatown boasts a bewildering number of places to eat, many of which are reputedly awful. Thanks to our hotel concierge we were able to get some decent nosh at the Hunan Homes. The food was really delicious, the menu varied and clear with lots of vegetarian options and there were plenty of... read more

While searching for a good place to eat in China Town, I looked up best Chinese food near me and siri pulled this place up. The place was packed so I thought we struck gold by eating at one of the best. The food isn't all that great. I have had better in MT. The service was great, and overall... More

Had broccoli beef takeout. Good flavor, tender beef & just right crispy broccoli. Reasonably priced considering the skyrocketing price of beef and that this is San Francisco.

We wanted to visit an authentic Chinese place while in SF, and we came here based on a different website's recommendation. The service was attentive, and there seemed to be a mix of English- and Chinese-speaking patrons, which made us feel like we weren't eating in a tourist's restaurant. Food was delicious, and we especially liked the hot and sour... More

We picked this restaurant from the Trip Advisor reviews. It was busy but we had booked a table so no problem. The waitress was helpful and friendly, making sure we didn't overorder (you never know how big the portions are going to be). I have to say that the food was great, the vegetables were plentiful and fresh. This restaurant... More

This is a great experience with super food. You line up and put your name on a list for a table and wait outside - it's that popular but worth the wait. The menu caters for all tastes and the food is fabulous. Watch out, portion sizes are generous.

In my last review of this place I said I would return if I was in SF again and I did return! This time went with family including two children and we had an equally satisfying meal. The portions are large enough to share and all are very tasty. The dishes listed as spicy are indeed spicy! Again, the wait... More

Finally had a great meal in San Francisco's Chinatown. Great soup and dumplings. Also, squid dish was very tasty.

My family and I went to Hunan's to pick up some take out. The service and restaurant were both very nice. Our food came exactly 10 minutes after we ordered. The food was fantastic! I will definitely come again next time I visit San Francisco.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
