we're pretty sure we were all accidentally dosed with psilocybin mushrooms from the hot and sour soup. Each of us started suffering from strange symptoms, from paralysis to tingling to strange psychedelic type effects, anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes after eating the hot and sour soup. Anyway, the soup was still delicious and the rest of the meal was... More

I chose this place on the strength of the reviews, and my family and I came away full and well fed, but also slightly disappointed. Service was prompt and friendly, but the food did little to distinguish itself from the myriad of other similar restaurants you find in major cities. Maybe it's good compared to its peers in San Fran,... More

We ate here last night ( Thursday). Managed to book a table an hour before for a 7:30 sitting. Ambience was what you expect from a china town hole in the wall, we were sat downstairs which was almost empty when we arrived. Later it was much busier with a wide mix of what seemed to be regular locals. We... More

We selected our own choices from the menu, including the combination platter for four to start. The waiter (I think he may have been the owner) suggested we change one of our beef dishes because the way two of the dishes were cooked were similar. We had orange beef, which was fantastic. All in all, a really satisfying meal, and... More

We had dinner at Hunan Homes last week, while visiting San Francisco, and all four of us thought that the food was very good. We had Hot & Sour soup to start, which was good, and then we had Peking Duck for the table, which was very tasty. We had a variety of other dishes to share, after the Peking... More

Having been reviewed as one of the top Chinese restaurants in San Francisco's Chinatown, we were disappointed to find that Hunan Home's Restaurant did not serve dim sum, nor is the general a la carte food particularly tasty. Compared to those surrounding, this restaurant was not very full, which should have warned us of the poor service and unsatisfying food... More

Stopped in for a quick lunch and only ordered off the lunch menu. In other restaurants, these lunch plates can be pre-cooked and less than fabulous. Opening Hot & Sour soup was just right. Lunch was yummy - fresh shrimp, not over-cooked, in a flavorful black bean sauce. And the child I was with ordered a deep fried pork chop... More

We ate here with a friend who lives in San Fran and had been before. The menu is large and the food very good. It was packed when we went which was a good sign. The prices are very good with all dishes are $11-$13 or so. I liked that our round table had a lazy susan so our party... More

Americanized Chinese food done old school style great. One can find all old favorite staples done very well at a very reasonable prices, i.e. cheap. If one wants Mongolian Beef of Kung Pao Chicken, this is the place for you. When one hungers for American General Tsao, you go here in all its MSG glory. Is it avant-garde authentic Chinese... More
