We got very lucky and walked right in to a table before the dinner rush. They were very sweet and accommodating to our stroller and two young kids. We loved everything we ordered and service was quick & efficient. Kung pao chicken and Mongolian beef quite spicy! :) And pork and shrimp fried rice us a must. Would definitely eat... More

It was recommended by our hotel and we loved it. Best wonton soup ever! It was very busy, but they honored our reservation! I highly recommend!

Leave Grant St and go where the locals eat! You may even share a table with a few while Grandma snaps beans at her corner table. Fantastic Walnut Prawns and best Mu Shu Pork I've had anywhere! Go during off hours so you can get a booth and not have to wait but worth the wait!

Read good things abt the restaurant. It is mentioned that it is the best in the China town area of SF. Nothing special. Pretty standard Chinese restaurant.

They say if you want to eat the food of a particular nationality choose a restaurant where the nationals of that nation eat. Sound advice for Hunan. As far as I could see the Hunan largely serves a tourist market, and if my experience is correct are trading on their reputation. As one of the best rated Chinese restaurants on... More

This restaurant doesn't look much from the outside, but it was clean, the staff friendly and the food amazing. We didn't make a reservation, only had to wait for around 15 minutes for a table. If in San Francisco and looking for Chinese food, go to Hunan Home.

Wonderful food and value for money. We started with the fried prawns which came with a delicious plum sauce. For mains we shared the sweet and sour chicken, and the de luxe sizzling seafood. We had the vegetable fried rice. To drink, we had a bottle of White Zinfandel - crisp and cold and just $17. This is a very... More

If I could give 3.5 stars I would. Nothing wrong with this place, but nothing amazing either. We had a lunch there today, Hunan chicken for me and Kung Pau chicken for my son. Hot and Sour soup was not spiced well, a bit average and boring. Both our dishes were mildly spicy. The portion of rice was huge, the... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
