Established in 1951. The family of Mama and Papa Sanchez, serves up traditional and innovative breakfast dishes in "Little Italy", the famous North Beach District in San Francisco. Across the street from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Mama's legions of fans line up early and throughout the day. We use the freshest of local products, imported Italian meats to fill our fluffy omelettes, homemade jam, fresh baked breads, pastries and other delectable dishes. We invite you to try our little restaurant and become part of the Mama's Family.

worth the wait

Dining here is an event! Be prepared for long lines, but the food & service are both worth the wait. Once you wait in the outdoor line, you then wait inside for a tiny table. But the food is prepared fresh & flavorful.

We got there and the line was already in full force. We arrived about 9am and had an 1 1/2 wait. There is now a menu posted on the window closer to the door so you'll have plenty of time to check out the menu while waiting. There's also a "specials" menu on the window seal by the door which... On arrival to Mama's, we were presented with a very long queue. However, it was our last day in San Francisco so we really wanted to experience the breakfast. After waiting 2 hours, we were finally seated and ordered our breakfast. I ordered eggs benedict and after a few mouthfuls, I realised there was a thick, black body hair on... More

Mama's on Washington Square We got in the line up around 12:10pm noon and waited a bit over an hour to order and be seated. It's very easy to find with a corner entrance and a large white awning that saying Mama's on Washington Square. A must - Original Monte Cristo Very flavorful, nicely presented, berry sauce was a nice... More

2 hours wait and counting. So no matter what the food would be like,i will never do it again. There should be more consideration for the clients waiting outside and baking in the son. A courtesy offer of water while you wait could help.

I arrived at 8:08 and they open at 8, buy even though I had to wait an hour. However, the breakfast was amazing and the roasted potatoes delicious. 100% recommendable.

1시간 30분의 웨이팅이 아깝지 않은 곳. 스페셜 Crab cake egg benedict를 주문했고 정말 맛있었다. 아쉬운 점이 있었다면 함께 주문한 스무디는 좀 아쉬웠다. I ordered crab cake egg benedict, the house specials, and it was delicious. Worth it to wait about 1.5 hours. The only reason I did not give 5 points because the smoothie I ordered was not my favorite.

Be aware, no credit card, so prepare your cash! Moreover, you'll wait an average of 90 minutes, no less. Because Mama's is an institution for what concerns the breakfast or brunch, depending at which hour you will decide to arrive there. And then if you are in San Francisco, on Sunday morning, it would be a pity to not visit... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
