You will wait either way but maybe less if you get there early to be in the first group to be seated. As other reviewers mention, once you're in the door you stand in line to place your order so know what you want. This does seem to help with the table rotation so folks aren't lingering over the menu... more

Located in the Italian district-Mama's is a great breakfast nook. The lines can be long-but it moves at a rather good pace-expect 30-45 minute wait. They have a good selection of omlettes, french toast, pancakes and other breakfast items. The food was good and fresh. Their food is slightly different where it is tasty and unique. They have great ollieberry... more

The food here was delicious. It was novel to have to wait in line outside but it was well worth the wait. If you want to eat here, you should try and get here as close to 8 as you can. Be prepared to queue again when you get in and also to place your food order before you are... more

We had breakfast at Mama's on a trip to SF in September 2009. It is well worth the wait to get in. The food was incredible.....everything was very fresh and tasty. more

WARNING: If you read this you'll be compelled to wage an all-hands campaign to revise, revoke, re-edit and break rank with any guidebook, website, blog or public record of any kind that recommends dining at... Mama's in North Beach. This place sucks, and it's not worth the wait AT ALL. Other reviewers refer to the scores who flock to Mama's... more

We waited awhile, which we were expecting after reading the reviews. Very busy, very packed, very near the other diners. My husband ordered the banana pancakes and liked them. I ordered the French Toast Pan Dore (French Toast and thinly sliced apples swimming in a lemon butter sauce) and it was good, but much too buttery for me. I might... more

Went here after hearing all the rave. Waited in line for about 40 minutes for breakfast but that is to be expected for such a famous place. I have to say the food was worth the wait! They are a tad bit on the expensive side but if you want a piece of San Francisco cuisine history you have to... more

This was the only time that we stopped to eat breakfast in SF and it was worth it. Be prepared to wait for a table(almost an hour for us). The place is small and you are really close to the other diners, but that seems consistent throughout SF. I had the dungeness crab w/ eggs benedict. It was one of... more

We arrived at Mama's at 7:30 am thinking we were crazy for showing up 30 minutes before opening but were surprised to see 5 people already waiting. Right after we arrived the line grew, and grew, and grew, and by 8:00 there was about 45 people behind us. Once inside we ordered and sat down and was welcomed by a... more
