Good restaurant but over rated “Chicken for two roasted in the brick oven”

The food, menu, and service are very good, but the “brick chicken” that is the specialty of the restaurant is really over rated. I recommend trying one of the other menu items if you go, as the chicken is a good expression of roasted chicken, but my table all thought it was not magical, and... read more

My wife and I traveled from Far away to visit this café and eat some highly recommended supposedly good food. The oysters were good but the server was not. The manager did his best but he only could do so much. My wife had the hamburger which she later through up that made her sick and I had a pizza... More

This was our first visit. Have been wanting to go here for a long time. We ordered the chicken for two. I had a Caesar salad. The salad was way to large for one person -- my husband and I could have shared it. The romaine leaves were whole and dressed very thinly with a too lemony dressing. The much... More

I hadn't been to Zuni Café for over a decade and didn't know what to expect when some of my choir suggested a meal there before our dress rehearsal. We met at 4:45, immediately ordered drinks--I couldn't believe they had Weihenstephan Weißbier! After shmoozing a bit they took our orders. The burgers were delicious and exactly as we had ordered... A great place to share special moments with special people. Atmosphere is stylish but cosy, food is amazing...and of course the chicken!!! You need 1 hour to get it done...but it's sooooo worth it!

The food is always a wonderful experience here. The Chicken is to die for. A little bit of a wait but well worth it.

My wife and I have been going to Zuni Café at least twice a year for many years. We have never ordered anything except the chicken for two. It is that good. It takes about an hour to cook in a special oven, like a stuffed turkey, except the chicken is stuffed with buttery French bread. Tell the waiter you... More

Loved the chicken-for-two . Smokey and fresh. The restaurant has a well-heeled neighborhood vibe, filled with repeat customers and slightly older crowd

Excellent whole chicken roasted to perfection and served over bread with salad on top. The flavours are outstanding and the chicken is moist, the bread is awesome. This is definitely a worthwhile stop if you are travelling to San Francisco. Make sure you make reservations. Can't way to go back, eating roast chicken will never be the same again.

I eat here 3 times a week. It's THAT good. Get the Chicken Conquistador. It's one of the best sandwiches I have ever had!

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighborhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
