very popular, "in" place, food so-so

Service was very slow, understaffed for such a busy place. Food was all right, not wonderful, wine list impressive, with prices to match. In general, OK but overpriced. It's in a remote part of Market Street, there are very few taxis after dinner.

We went there for a late dinner and really like the food and the atmosphere of this restaurant. As a starter we had the burrata & arugula salad to share - the salad was super fresh and crisp and the burrata came with zucchini slides instead of tomatoes (great touch!!!) As a main we went with the chicken which was... More

While searching for a restaurant close to the SF Jazz Center, we came across the Zuni Cafe. What a find! The roast duck breast was a standout as was the roast chicken for two. We also were impressed with the service. When seated, we informed our waitress that we had a concert to catch. She did not need to be... More

Beautiful restaurant. The service was good, but a bit 'stuffy' - questions were answered and wine/water refilled promptly. My favourite dish was the rabbit appetizer, incredibly tasty and tender with a bit of mash sweet potato and crisp turnip slices. The caesar salad was also really nice. My entree was the pappardelle with a bolognese ragu. Nice portion size. Ragu... More

I used to run there for a good hamburger(there were no fast hamburger joints in SF), so when I got an urge, I would go to Zuni get a hamburger on a baquette bread with these thin frites, to die for. Known for after theatre, etc. etc. Has a piano player, big on wines and a well known restaurant. The... More

Zuni Cafe is an institution in San Francisco for its cuisine. Their chicken roasted in a brick oven is worth the hour's wait to have their top offering. The menu is sure to please everyone. They have a good wine and beer list, as well as choices from the full bar on ground level. Also note that Zuni Cafe is... More

We eat here often. The food is always fresh and the staff is friendly and efficient. My favorite is the Cesar salad. It is never drenched in dressing and the lettuces are crispy. The hamburger, especially with Gorgenzola, is delicious I also like their special relish. We have never had a bad meal at Zuni.

We used to frequent this place about a decade ago. The food and service was always good and my wife liked it alot but I always thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was. We went there again tonight and were quite disappointed. Both of our dishes arrived at a temperature somewhere between lukewarm and tepid, and the... More

I have wanted to eat here for a long time. I had great service, and thought the atmosphere was friendly and cool without trying too hard to chase trendy. I started with oysters and a Hendricks martini. The oyster bar selection, service (discussion and recommendations) quality and presentation was superb. Martini was good too. Then I had the polenta with... More

After all the hype, pretty disappointed. My wife and I and another couple went before the theater. Had the salad and pork chop. Good ok, service pretentious, prices ridiculous. Would not bother again. Classic over hyped eatery.

Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway.
