Order the Chicken

Zuni is a San Francisco institution. We never order chicken when we are out, but returned here after too long away. We had the caesar salad, which was excellent, followed by a summer pasta with grilled corn, peppers and shallots in it, which also was delicious. The chicken, which takes one hour... read more

Long before "locavore" was even coined, the Zuni's proprietor took on the mission of devising recipes based on fresh, ripe locally raised meats and produce. And they haven't run out of ideas yet! In late August, it was sheer pleasure to eat the Peach Crostini (perfectly balanced by white balsamic), the fettuccine with a crusty garlic topping, and the ineffable... More

Dined here in August 2015. The staff were very friendly however the menu was very overpriced for the small portions served. The food was nice - however not worth the price! There are plenty of other places in San Fransisco serving decent food at a reasonable price. I would not recommend this place.

Great food, try the lime and pepper pizza! It is delicious and the oysters were fresh and tasty long with great drinks. Great lunch spot!

San Francisco has so many appealing restaurants but you would make a terrible decision not to stop at Zuni. Zuni feels up quick so try and make a reservation first. But do not worry too much if you can't get a reservation, try out the bar area. They have a number of tables there and same service as the main... More

Their chicken is a masterpiece with the white and dark pieces being equally delicious and tender. We've also tried their lentil soup and a trout appetisers, both were amazing. It's also a great place for people watching.

This was the first we had visited San Francisco in 15 years or so and I had wanted to try the Zuni Cafe roast chicken ever since I heard about it. I wanted to love it but alas, it was not to be. The chicken was good but nothing to get excited about. It is just a matter of roasting... More

It takes an hour to prepare, and it feeds two too well, and it is the essential order on the Zuni menu. In our group of eight, four had the chicken and the others drooled. Not that their food wasn't also fantastic--I'm sure it was--but I had no room to sample from others' plates. The chicken is cooked flat, weighted... More

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighborhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
