Drink, drink, drink!

We went to tommys for drinks for the first time in thirty years and we felt like nothing has changed! Change is not always a good thing! This is a great place, a true hole in the wall where beer and drinks are cheap. The food, think old fashioned cafeteria , is also reasonable and plentiful. A true... read more

Tommy's Joynt was recommended to us by someone who lived in CA quite a few years ago. Unfortunately, I don't think it's the same caliber it was when she used to dine here. Definitely off the touristy path, the restaurant is in the gritty Tenderloin district. That did not deter us but is something to be aware of. The decor... More

Great sandwiches at a very reasonable price. Big on meats like brisket with side dishes and of course a full bar service is available and there is always some sort of sports on the tv.

Let's face it, this establishment is a no frills, queue up, choose your platter and sit down and full up kind of a place. I don't know enough US slang as to whether this is a "dive", "Diner" etc...but it servers no-nonsense food. Would I go for a romantic meal or to impress anyone? No. Was it great for 2... More

Surprising old stylish American look like bar / restaurant. You have order your food as in a cafeteria (a bit surprising to select something you would know). Food was not fantastic (sandwich) but ambiance worse it (quite difficult to find a nice place in this area).

We visited on the recommendation of a friend and also realised we'd seen this place on a travel show before. Fantastic selection of beers and I would definitely go back to try everything on the menu. I had the daily dinner platter of BBQ Brisket and it was cooked to perfection! Lovely service too, but bring a good amount of... More

If you want an absolutely wonderful, plate-ful of homestyle cooking, then wait in line at Tommy's. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is home-cooked. Served up on big platters, not fancy plated, just big. The hardest part about going there is the choices. So many and all looking so good. Sausages are recommended for a light meal, but the sliced brisket... More

The place is definitely a dive but the food is great. Big portions and great prices. Had the pastrami and it was as good as a NY deli. The pickles are wonderful. Great beer selections. We grabbed a cab there but decided to walk back to our hotel by Union Square. This place is in a sketchy neighborhood. Wouldn't recommend... More

Got here at 10:30 on a Saturday night and there was a line of about 10 people. My husband got the Buffalo Stew dinner and he found it delicious. I got the Pastrami on a yummy sourdough roll. Very tasty sandwich. I found the macaroni salad too sweet for my taste, but just an issue with my palate I guess.... More
