Not for gourmets, but if you want to see a slice of SF's "real" inhabitants, or if you like buffalo stew and an IPA, worth a visit.

If you're looking for an iconic place in San Francisco to have great food this is your place. All kinds of fresh, tender meat ready to be chopped and served in front of your eyes, great pasta, great beers. There's no mistery in Tommy's Joynt awesomeness, because everything happens in front of you. Once you enter the whole place may... More

After a night of drinking, Tommy's Joynt hit the spot. Mashed potatoes, meatballs, and gravy sopped up the liquor from the night. The food tastes homemade. Low price. Cafeteria style. It was perfect.

We had a large group of 28. It was hard to find places that had space for large groups to eat. Zack Katzman was so accommodating. He had space for our group to eat all in one area upstairs and their staff helped our group carry their food if needed. (our group has intellectual and developmental disabilities) They took good... I'm not sure what else to add to that statement.....I stayed in SF for a few weeks and visited Tommy's Joynt a couple of times during my stay, I tried a few different sandwiches and they were all incredible. I can't wait to go back and grab myself a hot sandwich and cold beer!

Not for dieters and there's such an accumulation of smoke from all the years it's been in existence, those sensitive to it might have problems, but it's a great old school place with great food. Nothing modern, nothing fancy, just order your food and sit and eat and soak it all in.

I love the fact that they carve up a huge serving of whatever meat you want.. but the corn beef is bomb, and pretty much so is everything else! Come hungry, and order a few beers... you will be a happy camper at the end of the day.. love this place and the history it represents. It has been on... More

We wanted to try a local restaurant and our hotel recommended Tommy's Joynt. The pastrami sandwich is the best I ever had and they carve the meat in front of you as you order. The spaghetti had a gravy sauce like the type you put on mashed potatoes so that was not a hit. We are used to the red... More

My wife had seen this place on Diners Drive In's and Dives so when we visited San Francisco a few weeks ago we had to stop. Definitely worth it! Ordering is a bit unique. You grab a tray. Order your meat, potatoes, salad etc (I had a meatball sub). You then pay and find a table. That might be a... More

Hi, I had read up on this restaurant before I traveled San Francisco this past April. When I saw it from a distance, it did not look like it would be that good due to all of the colorful signage. But my first impression was wrong. In general, I found San Francisco to be very expensive in the ball park... More
