Fine dining in the city

We had dinner Monday night before going to Davies Symphony Hall. We had the Tajarin and Tagliatelle Pasta dishes, and they were outstanding. The wine by the glass was very expensive ($13-24 per glass) and was very disappointing. We had the $24.per glass Burgundy, but it was very ordinary and certainly not worth the price. With all the wonderful wines... More

We went with another couple for their Prix Fixe New Year's Eve dinner. We chose the 8:30 seating and were at a table on the upper level looking over the wonderful bar. The restaurant setting is exposed brick, open curving stairs, and windows affording a view of the Civic Center area. They had decorated for the evening with balloons and... More

Although expensive, the location of this restaurant (within easy walking distance to the Symphony and Opera), the interesting menu and the excellent service make it a good choice for pre-symphony/opera dining. The beet salad was good although a tad under-dressed, the sable fish excellent with many interesting flavors (cara cara & dukkah--orange and nuts and seeds). The short ribs were... More

Very convenient location near SF Civic Center. Elegant dining. Very attentive and courteous service. Excellent wine list. The sea scallops appetizer was outstanding. The sable fish main dish was OK but not exceptional. Teramisu is deconstructed- would have been better as the real thing. The wine is excellent.

My wife and I have visited Jardinière on few special occasions when we come out to the city from San Jose. It is by far our favorite in San Francisco. With its location next to the SF Opera and SF Symphony, their patrons naturally seem to be the connoisseur types. Very classy, and doesn't have that Silicon Valley noveau riche... More

We visited here many times over the years. Recently we dined here after not being in the city for over eight years. The restaurant is still fabulous and the service, culinary creativeness and wine list is superb. Another delicious and very memorable meal. Loved it all over again.

A friend hosted her wedding reception at Jardiniere and it was easily the best wedding food we ever had (though that bar is rather low). We decided to go back and try the chef's tasting menu. At $150, it is NOT a cheap tasting menu, but food is one area where I'm willing to spend more for a great experience.... More

Decided to try this place because it's close to the War Memorial Opera House where my daughter and I attended a performance of the SF Ballet's Nutcracker. We arrived at 6 pm and were seated immediately. Our waiter Aaron answered our questions about the menu and offered suggestions. I went with the Chicken (carrot, bacon, seeded bread sauce), and my... A classic place - one to experience and savor. Accommodating for special dietary requirements. Every dish was delicious down to their house coffee (Equator) which was exceptional. Looking forward to the next special occasion to return to this restaurant.

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighborhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
