Wonderful tapas and neighborhood feel

This is a neighborhood Tapas restaurant. We enjoyed several cold and hot tapas, then ordered a seafood platter (can't remember the exact name) with fish, clams, mussels, peppers. That was fantastic and plenty for the 3 of us. Will come back again!

We walked in to have a drink at the bar and ended up making dinner from the Tapas menu. Each item we tried came out hot, tasty and unique. Wine selection by glass is great. But, the thing that made this place a great experience was the woman behind the bar. She was a joy. She loved her work, knew... More

Basque restaurants are a time-honored tradition in San Francisco. Bask is a modern twist on that idea, in the revamped Clown Alley in North Beach. The interior is now richly warm and beautiful. Even the surface of the bar is gorgeous. The atmosphere is buzzy, lively and inviting without that offputting roar of so many restaurants. The owners, David and... More

In SF for the weekend, and found this place walking distance from our hotel. Score! Ordered several tapas, all orgasmically good, especially the stuffed peppers and the garlic shrimp. Nice atmosphere, not too noisy as so many North Beach restaurants are, some interesting Basque decor, and our waiter Alex was outstanding! Dessert was good too, but the dinner food overshadowed... Tapas are meant to be enjoyed slowly… eat small plates with good company. This place does it right. There menu is superb - I highly recommend the squid (it is a class Spanish favorite and one of my favorite dishes. Go out of your comfort zone and try it!) and the tortilla española with chorizo. Their cheese plate is also... More

We had a dinner for six here on Valentine's Day. They were bustling and busy and there was live music so the atmosphere was lovely. The staff was great and the owner kept things moving fast. We had the sangria, the short ribs, the brie bites. The spanish tortilla was my favorite. Its like a fritatta, but with potatoes and... More

Basque food is not frequently found in the US with the quality and variety they serve here. If you are up for a different experience, new flavors and the opportunity to share small tapas plates among friends, this place will definitely do it for you. Plates are reasonably priced. The quality and dedication to prepare each of the recipes and... More

We arrived early on a Friday, so no reservations were necessary. We were I. Time for happy hour Sangria. We both ordered the red and it was generous. My husband and I shared three tapas; roasted mushrooms in a cream sauce (my favorite ,) calamari with a good and spicy batter and gambas in garlic and olive oil. Plenty of... More

One of my favorite meals my last trip to San Francisco. Like almost everywhere there, it seemed pricey, but still - Great service, lively atmosphere, and good food.

Food was average. Noise way above average. This restaurant was a disappointment in so many ways. We were probably just expecting so much more than we got. Was it our fault? Well I don't think so, not entirely. Maybe we were over dressed. The condition of the place is "worn out" tables and chairs, floors, walls etc all way past... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
