Great tapas restaurant in North Beach

In SF for the weekend, and found this place walking distance from our hotel. Score! Ordered several tapas, all orgasmically good, especially the stuffed peppers and the garlic shrimp. Nice atmosphere, not too noisy as so many North Beach restaurants are, some interesting Basque decor, and our waiter Alex was outstanding! Dessert was good too, but the dinner food overshadowed... Tapas are meant to be enjoyed slowly… eat small plates with good company. This place does it right. There menu is superb - I highly recommend the squid (it is a class Spanish favorite and one of my favorite dishes. Go out of your comfort zone and try it!) and the tortilla española with chorizo. Their cheese plate is also... More

We had a dinner for six here on Valentine's Day. They were bustling and busy and there was live music so the atmosphere was lovely. The staff was great and the owner kept things moving fast. We had the sangria, the short ribs, the brie bites. The spanish tortilla was my favorite. Its like a fritatta, but with potatoes and... More

Basque food is not frequently found in the US with the quality and variety they serve here. If you are up for a different experience, new flavors and the opportunity to share small tapas plates among friends, this place will definitely do it for you. Plates are reasonably priced. The quality and dedication to prepare each of the recipes and... More

We arrived early on a Friday, so no reservations were necessary. We were I. Time for happy hour Sangria. We both ordered the red and it was generous. My husband and I shared three tapas; roasted mushrooms in a cream sauce (my favorite ,) calamari with a good and spicy batter and gambas in garlic and olive oil. Plenty of... More

One of my favorite meals my last trip to San Francisco. Like almost everywhere there, it seemed pricey, but still - Great service, lively atmosphere, and good food.

Food was average. Noise way above average. This restaurant was a disappointment in so many ways. We were probably just expecting so much more than we got. Was it our fault? Well I don't think so, not entirely. Maybe we were over dressed. The condition of the place is "worn out" tables and chairs, floors, walls etc all way past... More

This place is a gem. I popped in here one afternoon, strolling around lost in The North beach area Of San Fran. The ambience was warm, the staff helped me with directions & I could not help but notice the huge bowl of homemade sangria behind the bar. I had not seen that kind of splendor since visiting San Sebastian.I noted... More

Remarkably cosy atmosphere, enthousiastic waiter (encouraging us to try different wines to make the right choice - and that during happy hour), and an excellent tortilla. Quite spicy though - be careful if you don't bear jalapeños too well. If you're in a group of two or more, I would suggest you to order different tapas - the table is... More

The food, service and ambience were first rate. It was surprisingly uncrowded for a Saturday night. We only had tspas, sangria, and wine, which were all tasty. Everything is freshly prepared. Try the spicy potatoes and beef ribs! Also the cheese with carmelized onions was wonderful.

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
