Excellent chocolate, hand-made. Questions?

There's chocolatiers and then there's Jean Marc. We met him on a foodie crawl and watched as he prepared what would become truffles. He offers multiple flavors with an engaging personality. Stop here and buy his goodies. You'll thank him and then me.

Stopped at XOX Truffles as part of a walking food tour. What an amazing experience. The owner/chef told us how he ended up starting in Paris to moving to San Francisco and what motivated him to start a business selling truffles around 20 years ago. He also did a demonstration of making truffles and let us sample some of the... More

I went all over Paris looking for the best hot chocolate, but I found it in San Francisco. Jean Marc is incredibly talented and friendly. When we walked in, he was stirring a large bowl that would become lavender truffles. The hot chocolate was handmade right in front of us. We tried the raspberry, cognac, hazelnut, earl grey and chili.... More

We were there this pas December, just walking around San Francisco for the first time, when I see the sign Truffles. I am a chocolate truffle lover, I even make them myself. But the box of 20 for $13 all different kinds..the were all amazing. The guy that helped us gave us two free ones to try. My favorites were,... More

There are some 20 different flavors of hand rolled truffles. Obviously made with very good quality chocolate. To top it off, the service is friendly and helpful. Order some coffee and sit at the sidewalk provided tables to savor your treats.

It's a somehow hidden place, but you may find amazing artisanal truffles made by a French chocolatier. Give a try!

If you are interested in an authentic chocolate experience, find your way to Columbus street in San Francisco. In this tiny envelope of a store you will find the Chef up to his elbows in rich chocolate, hand making a serious assortment of culinary confection. The dozen or so flavors are always changing but you will never be disappointed. Every... More

Stopped in here as part of a Tastebud Tour. The owner/Chef was quite nice and showed us his process for making truffles. I was able to try the Champagne, Coconut, and Caramel flavors. All were excellent. This isn't your typical chocolate. Be sure to stop by XOX when in the North Beach area!

We went to XOX after reading a review of their truffles. We ordered a 20 piece truffle box for 13.00. At firs I was surprised by the truffles as they were clearly hand made and rolled mainly in cocoa powder. The truffles I am accustomed to are usually more polished looking with fancy colors and finishes- do not, I repeat,... More

XOX is, hands down, the best chocolate candy experience in San Francisco. The flavor and consistency of the truffles, the friendliness of the owner/chocolatier and the cuteness of the shop all won my heart. And if that was not enough, they are very inexpensive. XOX was last on a four shop self-designed chocolates tour on a recent Saturday. I was... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
