Great for lunch and drinks !

A bit pricey but that is to be expected since it was formerly Houstons. The service was on point and the food was superb. Great location right on Embarcadero St. ...it serves as a perfect location to sit and people watch, when the weather permits. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.

I had the Award Winning French Dip. It is very good and the caesar salad was terrific. I loved the croutons. The Jazzz band in the background was such a nice surprise/addition to the evening. This is a pricey restaurant, but nice ambience.

I usually have the prime rib which many restaurant profess to have, but the cut at this restaurant is a major cut above all others. They understand about rare and the meat is rare, moist, tender and extremely succulent and capable of satisfying the most descrimating of palates.

We often visit family in SF and we all love going here. Our 9th grader chose to take friends here to celebrate his graduation from middle school. The kids had French Dips, the men choose prime rib. We were seated at separate booths and the two waiters kept us informed of how the kids were doing. Nice little jazz combo... More

This restaurant is close to all of the SF fun but not a tourist spot. The artichoke appitizer is fabulous. If you want a healthy delicious meal try the kale salad with rotisserie chicken. If you want stick to your ribs food, you will never have a better French dip.

We were here to meet new family members to be........ The setting is convenient to the SF embarcadero area, parking nearby, and nice decor. The food was very good. The meat dishes were huge! The meat was definitely well cooked and presented. The cost was about par for a restaurant of this location and menu in SF. The one reason... More

We have been to the Hillstone in Scottsdale and very much enjoyed the food, ambiance and service. This one in SF was just an average chain restaurant. My ahi platter was over seared and over sauced. My husband's NY was cooked well and he described it as "good, not great." The focaccia appetizer was too much bread for the skimpy... More

We decided on an early dinner before taking the night cruise to Alcatraz. This restaurant is just across the street, so convenient location. At first, I was doubtful. The restaurant has a formulaic look. The menu is not that extensive, and not wanting a huge meal, I just ordered a salad. Others in the party had prime rib, burgers. Well,... More

If you are overwhelmed by the pier crowd, try Hillstone. It is just across the main road and while you a still a couple of steps from the sea side, it is definitely a different experience. Got there for coffee and regretted to not be hungry as food look very fresh and good. Particularly the artichoke.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
