Consistently yummy

Consistently good. I come here often on a Friday for a work lunch. Not out of this world food but enjoyable and a fairly decent wine list. My only gripe... They serve sparkling wine in the most horrendous thick rimmed glass. Really not appropriate for this type of wine. Feel like you're drinking... read more

Good place in the Fisherman's wharf district to get a good quality american style fare. One of the best parts of this restaurant is the BYO facility which works perfectly if you are returning to San Francisco after a return from Napa. General ambience is nice, although they do try and circulate people through, the jazz is a nice touch.... More

Fabulous dinner here at our last night in the city. Great ambience and lovely live band. Service was top-notch and the food quite good. Recommend the spinach artichoke dip and any of the fish entrees. This place knows how to run a restaurant.

Casual, but classy environment. Food was tasty and presented well. Across from the Embarcadero, yet not a touristy location. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. It is a little pricey. You might describe this as an upscale cafe.

It's a treat to come for lunch when I am working in SF. Great for tourists too as it near Pier 39 and where you get in for Alcatraz tours. It does not have a touristy feel and I do a lot of business lunches here. I love kale chicken salad. While $18 is a little pricey for a salad,... More

This restaurant is a short walk from the ferry for Alcatraz. We really enjoyed our dinner. They also have outdoor seating. We were there early, around 530, so service was quick and the staff very helpful

We were enjoying drinks at the bar when a manager started arguing with an elderly customer about something and became positively abusive. We left shortly afterwards.

I went to Hillstone on my first night to San Francisco. I have been eating at Houston's since I was a child in the 80's. I can honestly say I have eaten at Houston's hundreds of times in my life. That is not an exaggeration. It is one of my favorite places ever. I do miss the bbq chicken. It... More

Had pre booked from the Alcatraz evening tour, but did not realise the time given on the website was the departure time from the island, so arrived nearly an hour late, but was greeted and seated without fuss. Prompt, discreet service, a reasonable wine list, happy to make recommendations, and explain the "Americanisms" to two ignorant Brits. Poor steak cooked... More

I had the blackened rib eye and it was great. The chicken was very good too.The restaurant atmosphere was friendly and cozy and the staff did a good job.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
