Schnitzel, Strudel and Steins

This place is great. I've only been here twice, but I loved it each time. The decor may be a little gratuitous (waiters/waitresses in lederhosen and dirndls), but the food is great. Don't look at the menu, just order the weiner schnitzel with lingon berries. It was great both times I had it and... read more

My only regret is that I was unable to return here for another meal It was a long walk from the financial district, up and down San Francisco's hills so my appetite was reenforced. There were only a few folks who reached the restaurant before I did and I was invited to sit anywhere. The restaurant has rather large booths,... More

Read a lot of good reviews before going to Leopold's in March 2015. Atmosphere and food were really good. Even had a chance to practice german language with our server. Highly recommended.

I little taste of Germany, Austria and eastern Europe right here in San Francisco. Had the house sausage appetizer, Weiner schnitzel and dark German beer and left completely satisfied with a huge smile. Will definitely go back and recommend this place to all. All the dishes looked excellent and the atmosphere is authentic.

Me and my husband went to Leopold's in November 2014. We loved it all! The atmosphere is fun and loud, the staff is service minded and friendly, the Bavarian beer is good and the food is just amazing! I had the "Braised Beef Short Rib" and I loved every bite of it. The meat, the gruyere mashed potatoes, the sauce,... More

On a recent business trip to San Francisco, I went to the #1 restaurant according to TripAdvisor, one somewhere around #2000, and Leopold's which at the time of this writing is #45. Of the three, I very much preferred Leopold's. I'll be clear why- the beer was good and authentic, the Paprika Beef Goulash has to be just about the... More

What a fun place to get a taste of Austrian black forest hunting lodge schtick. The staff are routinely friendly and happy. The place can get loud and noisy and the beer flows freely. The "boots" glasses of 5 liters are a hoot. The food is good but not great, it's the atmosphere that people come for. Most of the... More

I really enjoyed the food in this restaurant. I had the roasted chicken dish that came with red cabbage which I replaced with spazel. The food was delicious and tasted like it was homemade. The restaurant has a great atmosphere but it's very noisy. It's a great place to go with friends but I don't think it's suitable for a... More

Grüß gott, tripadvisor users! Step off of Polk Street and step into Austria. At Leopold's you will find wiener schnitzel as good as you can get anywhere. No kidding. The strudel is also a must. The inside is decorated in a style reminiscent of an old Alpine lodge. What else can you ask for?

I live down the street from Leopold's and I go here at least once every couple months. The service is great, the beer is great, the food is super authentic. Good vibe there, too. I'm a big big fan of the goulash/spatzle/salad special. My advice is to get here on the early side, especially on Fridays and weekends, as the... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
