Fantastic find, get there early

On a recent business trip to San Francisco, I went to the #1 restaurant according to TripAdvisor, one somewhere around #2000, and Leopold's which at the time of this writing is #45. Of the three, I very much preferred Leopold's. I'll be clear why- the beer was good and authentic, the Paprika Beef... read more

What a fun place to get a taste of Austrian black forest hunting lodge schtick. The staff are routinely friendly and happy. The place can get loud and noisy and the beer flows freely. The "boots" glasses of 5 liters are a hoot. The food is good but not great, it's the atmosphere that people come for. Most of the... More

I really enjoyed the food in this restaurant. I had the roasted chicken dish that came with red cabbage which I replaced with spazel. The food was delicious and tasted like it was homemade. The restaurant has a great atmosphere but it's very noisy. It's a great place to go with friends but I don't think it's suitable for a... More

Grüß gott, tripadvisor users! Step off of Polk Street and step into Austria. At Leopold's you will find wiener schnitzel as good as you can get anywhere. No kidding. The strudel is also a must. The inside is decorated in a style reminiscent of an old Alpine lodge. What else can you ask for?

I live down the street from Leopold's and I go here at least once every couple months. The service is great, the beer is great, the food is super authentic. Good vibe there, too. I'm a big big fan of the goulash/spatzle/salad special. My advice is to get here on the early side, especially on Fridays and weekends, as the... More

Terrific German food - I had the Beef Goulash - it was better than any I had eaten in Hungary. The atmosphere is a lot of fun. I usually do not like loud restaurants, but there was something about Leopold's that made the volume seem right. We were actually headed to a different restaurant, but the hills got the better... I was going to have a salad (already ordered) and I saw the schnitzel and just had to had it! Ate soooo much but worth it. The 0.5 Stiegli is good also. I didn't lake the flourless chocolate cake so much although I ate it all. Recommend it.

Everyone got to pick a place to eat and it was my turn. I wanted beer, good food, and fun. It was quite a walk up from the wharf, but worth every step. I'm a beer guy and love good German beer. This place has a great selection and Das boot as well. Kristin, our waitress, was great. Attentive, not... More

Loved this little place. Went for dinner. Service was great, food was great, atmosphere great! Good beer selection and traditional food. Fun environment. Had the pappardelle dish and the short ribs (reminded me of sauerbraten). Left there full and satisfied. Will go again.

We came to Leopold’s based on a recommendation from a local and it lived up to the hype. This place feels like the gasthauses we visited in Austria and Bavaria. We weren't greeted when we walked in the door, and I didn't notice if there was a sign instructing us to seat ourselves, but after a few seconds a waitress... More
