Don Pisto's was not our 1st choice. Glad our 1st choice fell through. Don Pisto's is a small, neighborhood bar/restaurant. Inside it's modern twist on the traditional Mexican restaurant. The food is fantastic, fresh, and flavorful. While in SF, we ate at several well known restaurants, but, congratulations Don Pisto's, you were by far our favorite! It's our new go... More

Be aware, the place is small and gets noisy and those margaritas make some people a bit raucous (not MY party, of course) - but the atmosphere is casual and fun, the margaritas really are very good, the guacamole and their special salsa verde and the shrimp tacos are all quite fabulous. Avoid the grilled shrimp which for no good... More

Don Pisto's is a great restaurant, with a very different and modern interpretation to Mexican food. Everything we ate was good, spicy at the right level and with a great flavor that remain authentic and close to the roots of Mexican cousine. The Guacamole is "to die for." It is worth going back, just to have it. We are fans... More

Dropped in for an early dinner because, believe it or not, you can get tired of Italian food here in North Beach. Unusual menu with seviches, sashimi, etc. Sangria hit the spot; salmon appetizer and enchilada entrees were just right - spicy, not too heavy on the cheese, beans, etc. Served by a young trainee (?) who could not have... Awesome building and atmosphere, and the food and service are awesome. I had the chicken tacos and we got given chips and guacamole which was thinner than normal but really nice, first. Servings were a good size, not too monstrous as we often find in US eateries. Easy to find GF options.

I thought I was going to a traditional Mexican restaurant, but stumbled into fresh food with 90s hip hop music in the backround. I had grilled Calamari...which was good and fish tacos... which were great. My server was even hip. Id come again.

This place had exceptional food and the service was excellent!!! The flavors of everything we had was incredible. We got there right when they opened and the place was packed within 10 minutes of opening. The beat green salsa, yummy!!!

Ok maybe a big statement but the food here was stunning. A highlight was the squid skewers. The jugs of margaritas were just right and this was a fun and funky location to spend the evening in San Fran. The service staff were fabulous & the meal only cost $200 for a group of 4 & we could barely move.... More

Don't expect texmex or typical. Awesome guacamole, great sangria and Lobster for Tacos, OMG! We arrived about 615pm and no line to stand in. We would have never found this gem without the recommendation of a waiter at another restaurant, or we would have missed it.

We waited a little over an hour for a table, and once we got into the restaurant it was so loud we could barely hear each other talk. However, the guacamole was very good and the drinks were good. My tacos were just ok. Seems like it's a trendy place for young people. Fun for a few friends or small... More
