Great sushi, amazing atmosphere

Otoro Sushi, San Francisco, has very good food. We ordered sashimi, sushi, seaweed salad, sautéed mushrooms, and miso soup that my friend and I shared. The sashimi/sushi was quite fresh; we especially liked the salmon and the scallops. The sautéed mushrooms were excellent. The 2 waitresses were attentive and polite and the prices were reasonable for SF. The place is... More

Otoro Sushi is now our "go-to" dinner place when we see a show at the SF Jazz Center -- and we see a lot as we are members. The staff is friendly and accommodating (the manager held our table for an extra 20 minutes when I called and said we had hit terrible traffic). The tempura is crispy and delicious,... More

After a late arrival for a pre-show dinner, we were a little frazzled. Our waitress seated us immediately, asked if we would like anything to drink (yes!) and helped us select from an extensive menu. We had a fabulous variety including spicy tuna and a Dragon Roll to die for! So much fresher than our local (Penninsula) high quality sushi... More

We dined here on a recent trip to San Francisco, just before Thanksgiving. The place is hopping and be sure to make reservations because its very small with only a few tables and a sushi bar. We sampled the toro sushi and special rolls- the HIP HOP roll-very good. The salmon sushi was also very good, as was the scallops... More

We had a sushi lunch and enjoyed it. Costs are a bit higher than would be ideal (thus the 4 rather than 5 star rating) but fish was fresh and the rolls were very well done.

A small place that was packed on Saturday night, even at 5:30PM. Got there a little late for a 5:00 reservation but they seated us anyway. Very fresh and well presented. It took a little while for the order to come even though we were the first customers to arrive. Within 10 minutes the place was packed and humming with... More

I went on a date night to Otoro. We got there a tad before our reservation but had to wait extra 15 min for our table. The place is tiny so plan for additional waiting. The menu selection looked OK but the food, fish quality was not that great. Unfortunately we did not experience friendly service so don't think I... More

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighborhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
