Had a chance to snag a seat at the bar directly in front of the open flame stove. The restaurant is cozy, well appointed, great atmosphere with exceptional staff. Ordered the sunday dinner with wine paring. Exceptional. Huge portions, great food, excellent paring. Our seating allowed us to chat with the chef which was an added bonus. Highly recommend.

This was one of the best meals I have ever had in the city. Unfortunately I was by myself so I did not get to taste too many things. Started with a great salad that was simple but perfectly dressed with a light vinagarette. Then I had some sort of pasta with salt cod that was unbelievably good. I would... More

Delicious, fresh pastas in a comfortable setting. Quince's little sister restaurant never disappoints. We had the octopus, gnocchi, and tagliatelle alla bolognese, all very good. Good Italian wine selection at affordable prices.

We started with brussel sprouts that were prepared in a way that made them the best I've ever tasted. The pasta is made on site and you can watch the process through window on Pacific. We shared 2 and had a tough time deciding which to choose. They are all imaginative and unique. The gnocchi with hazelnuts and a house... More

Made an impromptu reservation on New Year's Eve afternoon for lunch with my family. We were so delighted with our choice of restaurants! The food is fantastic and the service was very professional but extremely helpful. The pastas and pizzas we shared were truly scrumptious! Cannot wait to return on our next visit to San Francisco. Highly recommend this restaurant... More

Cotogna is a favorite "go-to" restaurant. reliably excellent in their preparation of their standards like the ricotta and farm egg Raviolo or roast quail to their specialty salads and other house made pastas. The wine list is set up so you can't go wrong - affordable bottle or glasses are priced in groups so you can get what you want... More

This was a great little place and was hopping with activity. We had several appetizers including some great baked broccoli and mozzarella. We then had chicken (which is by far the best roast chicken I have ever had and some pasta with pork and rabbit meat! All of it excellent. I recommend for a fun night out or a romantic... More

We were recommends by a San Fran friend to Vost this place as it was her favourite. It was perfect and in a cool neighbourhood too. If you like wood fired pizza then this is the place for you. Great wine choices too. A must for any visitors to San Fran...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
