Our group included a bank CEO, two foodie tourists and a Muslim exchange student. Tough crowd to please but we all walked away very happy. The atmosphere is a bit stark--with a very tall ceiling (20' maybe) and one wall of windows that offer some natural light but it's diffused by the surrounding tall buildings. A somewhat open kitchen offers... More

We enjoyed the food here very much. The Halibut was as good as any I have had anywhere. Service is very good. I felt the wines by the glass were a bit pricey but that is not unusual I am told. There is a big noisy bar scene but the dining area is far enough away to not be bothered... More

Some of the best food I had in the US. Their beef tartare starter and pork chop main were amazing. We arrived at 8.30 and it was very clear the staff wanted to go home. They tried to rush us through, even removing my plate as I was putting my last mouthful in my mouth! The food outweighed the shoddy... More

Eclectic menu with inventive cuisine. Very accommodating to food allergies (i.e. dairy). Excellent service.

Presentation is this restaurant's forte. It presents itself beautifully from the decor to food. I love the floor to ceiling windows, contemporary furniture and I was even impressed with the gigantic double wooden doors. The service was attentive. My friend and I especially enjoyed the tuna tart-tar. The portion of the food is on the small side but definitely worth... More

Some reviews noted challenges with the place. Intrigued I visited, as a part of a group, for a dinner last night. The waiter, which is common, did a fantastic job describing the dishes. When asking about the chef, he was described as "intense", especially in the kitchen. All I can say after this meal is that I LOVE "intense". In... More

I met a friend on a Saturday night for dinner a few weeks ago. The restaurant has a lovely decor. It was busy with a nice looking crowd - patrons were dressed and festive. We waited F-O-R-E-V-E-R for everything...for our waiter to acknowledge us - for our drinks to arrive - for our starters to be delivered, and for our... More

We made reservations and were given an excellent table. Usually we get shoved into a corner being the regular shmubs we are (not that I wouldn't put us in a corner either) but we had a booth in the middle of a lively fun restaurant. Our server, Elizabet, was perfect for us. The service was perfect but in a light... More

You know a good restaurant by the way they handle large groups, we had nearly 40 in the private room, with chicken and beef as the mains! A disaster waiting to happen, the truffle risotto was delicious and the chicken was the best Chicken meal I've had at a restaurant, it was flavoursome and moist! The person beside me had... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
