While the free parking is great and the food is innovative, if you are dining with more than three people this is an incredibly frustrating experience. A great number of the dishes come with three servings, and your waiter won't bother to tell you this. So, as your three items of this, or three items of that stream to your... More

I cannot believe this place...when they mean their portions are small they mean they are small. Of course they are really tasters, not main dishes. And not that good. 1. One of my guests was vegetarian. She got a dish with mushrooms mixed in bacon. 2. There were six forks, one spoon, one massive knive on the table for dishes... More

I guess you would call it nouveau cuisine. Tasting menu and we did the wine pairings. The wine pairings were adequate -- not a great deal of thought went into picking the right wine to go with the complex palate. One wine was way off target. Not a bad wine -- just badly selected. The hostess was a bit rude,... More

The neighborhood is colorful, full of life and maybe not where you would expect to find a restaurant of this level. If you know san francisco, you'll understand. However, it really worth to go there. The food is delicious. The recipes are precise and without hesitation. The chef is a master of his art. We chose the tasting menu and... More

Commonwealth has been one of our favorite restaurants every since it opened. Chef Jason Fox and his team always surprise and delight us with amazing, unique food. Service is polished and professional and we always look forward to our meals here!

The tasting menu was a selection of beautifully presented modern dishes and the service was great. We had the wine pairing too which made for an enjoyable evening and the staff were all very friendly and informative. One tiny suggestion I would have is that when servers bring plates to the table and there is clearly a conversation in progress,... More

I eat at a lot of restaurants, and the tasting menu at Commonwealth was one of the single best meals I've had in my life. It was beautiful, well-paced, delicious. Staff were so great, never had to look for one, never had to ask for a thing. Honestly, if you're into food, treat yourself.

I've never eaten in a restaurant like this, so you must forgive my ignorance in understanding the "modern cuisine" I tasted. What a surprise to eat shaved raw rhubarb with cooked artichoke hearts and creme fraiche and have it work! The filet of sole was also delicious, but I have forgotten what delights were under it. The potato chips were... More

There are many restaurants in San Francisco now that are challenging our assumptions of "proper" combinations of taste, texture, smell. Some of them creating breathtakingly successful new combinations. Unfortunately, Commonwealth is simply creating different combinations that don't cohere, tastes that don't add up. One has the feeling that there is no underlying culinary philosophy underlying the combinations- just random chance.

I wanted to enjoy this place but was not inspired and won't return. Our decision to eat a la carte apparently dropped us to a lower tier of service with the waitress. Food was pretty but insubstantial. I usually get dessert with dinner, but we decided to walk to Humphrey Slocum instead.
