Exquisite Artistic Dining

Beautifully, exquisite, and creative dishes. Wonderful combinations and elegantly presented. Definitely a Nordic perspective on the quality of the food and the focus of its presentation. Every dish was executive superbly Only complaint is that the desserts were too sweet.

Really wanted to like Commonwealth, and I did like the space (if a little noisy), and the service, and the wine list but unfortunately not the food....loved the concept which is why I went there but it just didn't click for me. For some background I have lived in many countries and spend a fair amount of time in SF.... More

Great food, so-so service, great value. The restaurant is in a sketchy neighborhood and the decor is not good. I felt that the service was rushed. Every menu item was well prepared.

This was awful! We got tasting menu w/ wine pairing. Nothing made sense. Pretty terrible. Really bad experience specially for San Francisco!

Bistro atmosphere with an innovative tasting menu. Very accommodating as we switched out the sweetbread dish for a sable fish plate. The sable fish was awesome. I had a sea urchin plate which was fresh, mild and had a very delicate taste. We were very impressed. It is definitely worth the money if you want to try some creative combinations,... More

Came here for dinner and athough the portions were small, the food combinations were amazing. We jumped right in and tried 3 a la carte items. The beer meringue, chocolate ganache, pretzel crumble, crème fraîche ice cream was WONDERFUL and the perfect ending to a great meal. The service was very responsive.

My frame of reference is Manhattan so this review will either directly resonate with you or may not be helpful at all - I'll try to explain myself. The neighborhood (Mission, I'm told) looks like the Bowery did 10 years ago with hipsters on skate boards and tattoos, a little dirty but overall not unsafe. The restaurant is like Little... More

The restaurant itself is nothing special, very basic decor and setting. But the menu more than makes up for it with inventive dishes and delicious flavors. Portions are small so order at least 3 per person. Highly recommend trying the sea urchin, halibut, popcorn dumplings and pork.

UK reviewer: Venue is nothing special, indeed bordering poor. Menu is quite seafood rich which may not be to all tastes. Portions are seriously small ( "most people order 3 dishes") Yeah - cos otherwise they would go home hungry. Nouveau cuisine died but looks like the portions are making unwelcome return in San Fran. I wouldn't turn but can... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighborhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighborhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country.
