Simple and yummy

I really liked this place- the vegetarian option was fresh, abundant and varied. The staff were friendly (and willing to accommodate changes), without being intrusive. My friend really enjoyed the pork dish. I'd definitely visit again.

We were excited to try this little, very noisy, very casual Puerto Rican cafe and were not disappointed. My companion and I had the roasted pork, plantains, rice, beans, and salad plate. Huge portions of perfectly roasted pork. Well worth a trek to this end of the Haight! Only negative was the very loud music, but after a few beers... More

We had heard about this place from a friend of ours. After 3 hours of traffic, we drove straight to the restaurant, and after 30 minutes of parking search, we got a metered spot right in front. It did not disappoint. The shrimp mofongo was some of the best I've ever had, and that's coming from a boriqua who lives... More

Small and cozy atmosphere. Only 8 or so tables but well worth the wait! My entire group each ordered Chicarrones de Pollo and it was INCREDIBLE. I'd never had Puerto Rican food before, so it'll be tough to top this as my first experience. Don't forget to try the Sangria!

Great atmosphere in a small, non-descipt building. Don't let that fool you though -- the food is excellent. We went there for lunch on our recent visit to San Francisco. I had the pollo encebollado, and my girlfriend had the pernil asado. Both came with plantains. Awesome food and service. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area!

This restaurant is right in the Haight-Ashbury district. It has a fun bright atmosphere that makes you feel like your in Puerto Rico. The pulled pork is to die for my husband had the shrimp and really liked it. The price for 4 of us to dine was the most reasonable on our trip. A cool little gem of a... More

If looking for a break from Asian or Italian, try Parada. Fresh tasting Puerto Rican cuisine. Excellent Pernil and plantains. Reasonably priced. Attentive service.

Stopped here for lunch while on the city tour. My wife loved the place, I didn't like it as much but found it pretty decent as well. It definetly fits great into the neighborhood and seems pretty popular, although relatively small. It has very unpretentious and friendly atmosphere accompanied by pretty loud music which incidently allows you not to hear... More

There aren't enough words in the dictionary for me to describe how horrible my experience at this place was. Not only was the service terrible, but my two friends and I got food poisoning. Both waitresses had attitudes, and although the food was good (nothing out of the ordinary), a few hours later my friends and I were super sick! I... More

We love this restaurant on Haight Stree right next door to Cha Cha Cha Cafe. They are small, down-to-earth and have a great menu selection with traditional Puerto Rican dishes. The prices are reasonable and the best thing is that they serve the entrees with 3-4 small portions of side dishes (plantains, rice+beans, salad) so you get to taste them... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
