Wonderful authentic carbonara

These guys know how to make carbonara. Genuine guanciale (not bacon or pancetta) and a sauce that is strictly eggs and cheese. Wonderful! ! Eat with the Casale Della Ioria. A nice mellow red.

Good experience overall. Service was friendly and food was good, nice size portions and great presentation. A bit much on the salt but still not too bad. Wine was great. Would come back.

54 Mint was recommended by a friend of ours who said it was not to be missed. He was right. We had two fantastic entrees with incredible sauces and the octopus appetizer was phenomenal. They have a great wine list which the server was very knowledgeable about. The location is close to Union Square yet away from the crowds. Casual... More

Great food, excellent oxtail. Meat dishes fairly generous, though you will need to order a side of veggies if you want any greens, The Octopus appetizer was great, very tender. Oxtail main was delightful, melting off the bone, though just a tad saltier than what we preferred. Appetizers seemed expensive at around $16 each, the entrees were up to high... More

Went with a group for a work dinner. the dishes are expensive for the portion and lacked flavor. I was surprised after reading and hearing so many great reviews. half of our group left the meal hungry and opted to stop on the way home to get a snack. which is unfortunate given what we spent per person. I wouldn't... More

I went there after a friend recommended the place - from a first look it looked nice and with an impressive Italian wine list! It was I have to say a pretty cool choice. One should try the octopus - must - along with a nice bottle of wine. Pasta was really good for all of us, even though it... More

We were recommended Mint54 by the concierge at the Intercontinental. It was less than 10 minutes walk , ideal after a long flight and quick freshen up. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and warm welcome. We ate simple but tasty pasta , not too large portions, with a genuine Italian beer. I had a very acceptable glass of Primotivo. Thanks to the... More

Five of us, who at one time visited Sicily together, have reunited here for lunch several times. We are always pleased and happy when we leave. The Italian wine selections are wonderful. Today, four of us ordered the prix fixe menu ($16). I chose the arugula salad and fettucini, and took pictures so you could see it. The wait staff... More

My wife and I were in San Francisco for 4 nights this February and had three meals at 54 Mint. The first night’s dinner was on a whim as we were exploring the city around our hotel looking for a place for dinner. We checked out the menu, it looked good and they had an open table outside. It was... More

We were directed to this restaurant by our concierge when we asked for a good local Italian. When we arrived the atmosphere was pleasant and we were hoping for a enjoyable meal. However, what we experienced was very average food and very small portions. Pasta with a few clams, gnocchi in ragu, carbonara.... nothing special. Essentially pasta in sauces and... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
