Creative menu and presentation. Literally every dish was delicious, the flavor combinations were innovative, the wine pairings were excellent, and the serving plates were funational art. The service was professional and discreet.

On a weekend Spring trip to the city, we were looking forward to our first visit to Benu and we were not disappointed. Booking a late seating one Saturday night, we ordered the extended tasting menu with beverage pairings. As they came to out table, every dish brought with it a little surprise both in presentation and flavour. The Thousand... More

So I must be fair. The restaurant is sophisticated. The service is great. The food is very elegant. Let’s not take any of that away from Benu. Overall, I think that the experience fell slightly short of my expectations but it is an experience that I would certainly recommend enjoying at least once. Finding the entrance was a bit of... We have opportunity to try another 3 Michelin star "Alinea" in Chicago less than 1 month before we visited Benu in San Francisco. With my honestly we think this is the most wonderful dinner experience in our life!!! The service was perfect. Every tasting menus were delicious, not too fancy as Alinea. Sommelier have very good knowledge about paring wine... More

Visited in April to celebrate an anniversary. The service was good; however the food was mediocre and predictable. Our server was told that we were disappointed with our food. They proceeded to offer us a pasta dish that truely was inedible. My husband and I have eaten at a few 2 star Michelin restaurants. All had more creative and better... More

Having had the pleasure of dining in a number of Michelin 3 star establishments around the planet, benu is up there with the best. This is an experience that you should not miss, service was perfect, the wine simply excellent, and the food was simply sublime...we will remember this experience for a long time....which is just as well as the... We were very blessed recipients of the generous gift from our good friends who treated us to dine here. While the food and presentation are world class, I found the service a bit cold, just like the office-like decor. Even our main waitress seems to be distant. Not rude or snotty at all, but lacking personal touch, especially as we... More

Benu was amazing as was too beexpected with Cory Lee at the helm. Every course was prepared well and thought out. The highlight of the meal for me as silly as it might seem was the beggars purse dumpling it was delicious and fun. Service was impeccable. I do have a severe critiscm though. I don't mind spending money on... More

This is what dining at a 3 Michelin star restaurant should be like - every course was so creative, delicious, different, and unique. The décor is clean and simple but not lacking is character. The service was professional, warm, and attentive. Presentation of every course was brilliant. This was probably one of the better dining experiences ever, and I am... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
