Restaurant is situated on a relatively quite block in the evening - it was pretty cool to see the kitchen view from the street as you enter with all the chefs working diligently preparing the meal. Loved the lighting intensity in the restaurant as i prefer a bit more brightly lit restaurant rather than dim lit. Definitely overwhelmed by the... More

We had the privilege of dining at Benu, and to our pleasant surprise, its now a Michelin 3 star establishment. At $195, its expensive but relatively affordable as compared to other 3 star restaurants in the SF area. Is it worth it...a definite yes. Located in a nice but not ostentatious location south of Market. There is a valet parking... More

Went shortly after Benu earned it's 3rd Michelin star and it is well deserved. Bravo Chef Lee, it was certainly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Some of the dishes looked pretty ordinary visually but once you took a bite, it exploded with wonderful complex flavors which is hard to describe. Each dish was full of surprises which... More

Wow, what great timing for a recent visit to Benu. I didn't realize, at the time, that I would be dining at a newly crowned Michelin three-star restaurant. Benu has been on my radar ever since I read about its inception several years back. About a week prior to my visit to the city, I logged onto OpenTable to see... More

Degustation menu with plenty of spoils for sight. Butter with honey infused ginseng for bread and the marshmallow towel were delightful to taste and view. Few items in the menu were unusual compared to other Michelin starred restaurants like frog legs, monkfish liver, sea cucumber etc. Not the boring style tasting menu. Fusion plus new age!!!

We had the full menu...what can we say? Yes, it was good. But too much of a modern cuisine to me. Some ingredients (anchovies, codfish, etc) should not have their place in such a menu. Service was slow at times, and then fast. The restaurant itself is nothing special and the atmosphere quite cold. The kitchen (visible from the outside)... More

We celebrated our 20th anniversary at this fine dining restaurant and had a tasty unique experience. The staff was excellent and prepared for our celebration. The menu was personalized and in the end a special desert (surprise presentation!) was prepared. I was a little skeptical after the first couple courses that I would get enough food and not need to... More

Quiet and elegant dining room. Food was remarkable and creative. Give yourself three hours if you are going for the tasting menu.

It's hard to add anything to the previous positive reviews, except that my Korean American wife was moved by the dishes, saying they stirred up memories of the flavors, smells and textures from her childhood, and was startled to find such memories in these modern, elegant and exquisite pieces of art which paraded out from the kitchen.

The experience was special and so was the occasion and Benu lived up to the hype. A 17 course pre-fixed dinner was outstanding and each dish presented a story. We really enjoyed the experience. The restaurant ambiance is forgettable but food isn't and I think the Michelin stars are for the food and the service which was impeccable. Recommended when... More
