Great Cocktail Lounge

Great little Cocktail Lounge. We stopped in while waiting for a table at Tony's Pizza. I had a $9 Espiritu and it was delicious. Strong but good

The bartender could have been a bit more friendly. The atmosphere was great. Great locals and tourists.

Tony Nic’s Café is a bar with a misleading name located in the old Italian neighborhood of North Beach. The host of Café DeLucchi located across the street recommended it to me for before-dinner drinks. It’s has been operating since the early 1930s and retains the look and ambiance from that era. Walk in and you’ll think that you stepped... More

This lil hole in the wall spot is great. Our bartender was a bit "douchey" when I noticed a rare bottle of tequila on his shelf, he had a real "this is MY HOOD" attitude. I laughed and enjoyed my company and the ambiance. We ordered a few Grey Goose martinis and headed to the back of the bar. They... More

Tony Nik's in North Beach is a decades old traditional local's bar where you feel welcome stopping in for a drink. The owners have kept the interior clean and updated without losing the 50's cocktail lounge atmosphere (and without going purposely kitschy retro). Here you get a great hand shaken cocktail or a beer or glass of wine from a... More

We waited for a table at Tony's Pizza and had a nice drink next door in this cozy and friendly bar. The bartender was attentive but not hovering.

Popped in on recommendation from a friend and got a very warm reception from David the bar tender who also introduced us to a couple of locals who came in. All were friendly and welcoming and gave us some great restaurant recommendations. Went back again later in the evening and there were more people in so atmosphere was good and... More

What a great little neighborhood bar. Great drinks, dark, great lighting with a fun crowd. Super narrow bar with a great bartender named Dave. You have to hit this little place up in a hip part of SF. Everyone that sipped their drinks seemed to be a local. Nothing better than drinking in that environment!

We asked a local for directions to a different bar and he didn't know where it was but was willing to walk us the two blocks to Tony Nik's. A narrow bar that is seldom crowded and everyone we met lived within several blocks but most were either on that block or within a few. Super nice patrons, nice bartender... More

Cool little bar in North Beach with surprisingly friendly/attentive bartenders, considering how crowded it gets. Drink prices are reasonable, if not slightly on the high side, but this is SF. The bar area is very small and is immediately when you walk in so if it's crowded, it's hard to find a place to stand and navigate through people. There... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
