A definite nod to/revival of the traditional "white jacketed" bartender. Nice menu that reflects traditional dished delivered with a modern flair - for example the steak tartare, poutine, etc. They mix quite the fine Manhattan and are certainly "hip" to the cocktail trend that's making a comeback... read more

We stopped by for a drink and a snack, but couldn't pull ourselves away from the bar. Jake really knows how to mix a drink! I tried a few of the "Wayfare originals"; the Boulevardier, the Corpse Reviver #2, the Tavern sour, and Sazerac. All of them were expertly prepared. We tried the fried chicken because I've heard about it... More

It's San Fran, so not exactly cheap, but worth it for sure.

Though called a tavern, food far more varied and better than expected. top end service, great low-key decor and excellent ambiance. Very good wine selection as well. it's not a traditional type tavern, far more to it. great value for the price.

We had a very early dinner / quite late lunch on a Saturday afternoon — our table was booked for 5:45p, and we were seated immediately. The restaurant was already crowded, possibly with cruise-ship passengers. I like eating off-hours at a good restaurant: you often get extra attention from the staff, the food might be plated a little more carefully at... More

I was in Wayfare Tavern in honeymoon and I'd booked a table for two before got there. Customers were very kindly with us. We have had a good dinner and we'll came back very soon.

We recently had dinner at Wayfare Tavern, and I was definitely not disappointed. The restaurant was packed, with a very nice, casual atmosphere and positive vibe. Our server was excellent, very knowledgeable of the menu. Rib beef tartare - delicious (ask for extra potato chips). We had to try the fried chicken, as it was their most popular dish and... More

One of the best and most unique burgers I have ever had. The restaurant was very chic and well decorated. Mac and Cheese was also very good. Would recommend it to anyone in the area.

After hearing so much about this restaurant we had high expectations. It was good but not amazing and very pricey for what you get. Nice atmosphere, slightly rushed service. Not somewhere I'd rush back to.

Really nice and unique establishment. Good service and interesting dishes. Prices are moderate for what you get. Went last month for a family dinner and will be back.

They have nice dishes but man, do these servers have issues!? The first level is really loud and it seems like the regulars are the super pretentious types. Of all the institutions in the city, try this one lastly. Oh! the fried chicken: the dark meat is cooked just right, the white is dry. I hope they know to cook... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
