We shared a Saturday night dinner with family, with Wayfare Tavern selected on the strength of reviews. There's a lot of places in San Francisco that we have had both a better meal and dining experience. Not bad, just... meh. Fried chicken was good, the burger (one of their specialties, they said) was okay but did not impress, especially for... More

I love Tyler Florence, so making the reservation and anticipating the event were exciting, and the meal did not disappoint. Staff very professional, beer and wine list more than acceptable, atmosphere comfortable but upscale. Beef tartar smooth and nicely seasoned, husband and son enjoyed the oysters. I had the fried chicken - well seasoned and moist, better than I could... More

I had high expectations for this restaurant. I'm happy to say it did not disappoint at all. We started with the deviled eggs which were sublime. My husband had the fried chicken and I had the burger along with a glass of Tyler Florence Zinfandel , an excellent full bodied red. The burger rivaled Michael Symon's winning burger at the... More

Tyler Florence didn't let us down! The deviled eggs were an amazing start to the evening, and the signature fried chicken was moist and juicy- fantastic! My wife had the burger and it was "as good as Michael Symon's", high praise from a burger connoisseur! Great evening!

The food is superb, and this is one of the best burgers in the City. The wine list is excellent. Whether you are going for a cocktail or for a big meal, you will not go wrong. The manager Tony is very helpful and the service is all friendly and attentive. Great place!

You HAVE TO try the fried chicken! Or, anything on the menu. The wine selection was good, and the venue was dy-no-mite too. We sat at the bar and could watch the chef's prepare food - great dinner, great night!

Besides the history and the fact it is a landmark the food here was exceptional. Our very helpful waiter made sure to steer us towards the best dishes. Highly recommend for a good dinner or a night out for a special occasion.

We stopped by for a drink and a snack, but couldn't pull ourselves away from the bar. Jake really knows how to mix a drink! I tried a few of the "Wayfare originals"; the Boulevardier, the Corpse Reviver #2, the Tavern sour, and Sazerac. All of them were expertly prepared. We tried the fried chicken because I've heard about it... More

A definite nod to/revival of the traditional "white jacketed" bartender. Nice menu that reflects traditional dished delivered with a modern flair - for example the steak tartare, poutine, etc. They mix quite the fine Manhattan and are certainly "hip" to the cocktail trend that's making a comeback. It's San Fran, so not exactly cheap, but worth it for sure.

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
