Fancy pub food. Worth a visit

Every aspect of Wayfare tavern is on point. The food, the service, the drinks, the design. Everyone in your group will find something delicious to eat, and a drink to go with it. What more can you really ask from a restaurant? This place has hit the bullseye of serving food that is creative... read more

Pretty much the sort of place you would anticipate of any establishment with "Tavern" in its name and stuffed deer heads hanging on the walls: The emphasis is on alcohol consumption, because that is where they make most of their money. Menu choices are limited, and not particularly inspired -- a surprise to me, given the chef's reputation as a... More

If you can get a table here, it's worth every penny. We came here both at lunch and dinner and Wayfare doesn't disappoint. Their service is great. Atmosphere cheery and not too loud. The food, oh the food! Maybe because I grew up in Texas, but their southern comfort food is divine. I crave their fried chicken and have taken... More

Was looking forward to trying this place for a long time and the wait was worth it. I really liked the décor which offered that old San Fran charm and the two levels which offered a bar on each floor. I felt comfortable here (wearing jeans and a button down, no coat) as it seemed to have a relaxed atmosphere.... More

Went here for dinner during a business trip. Our hosts closed the entire restaurant for a private event. It was a great evening--the food was excellent and the drinks kept flowing. It's a great place for dinner, drinks and late night eating. If you go, you must get the fried chicken! It's so good and it's what they're known for.... More

Definitely a vibrant raucous bar for the pin-striped Masters of the Universe in the Financial District. Stopped in for an early dinner after spending a day with the family in the city: we were not in our Canali/St John suits, and were treated accordingly. We had a reservation but were eyed up by the front of the house as if... More

I was attracted to the sidewalk bistro table(s). The menu was bleak. And service was very slow. The Asian food server had a "forced/pained look" on her face. Phony? I asked for my food to go (take back to my hotel room) I was bored by that point. the food was dry n' chewy.

Went there with friends while visiting San Francisco. Our friends live in the area and suggested that we meet them there. The place was pretty loud and pretty busy (we didn't mind this). We were sat a bit later than our reservations, were brought some deviled eggs which were awesome! Ordered the fried chicken which was also fantastic along with... More

I sat at a small chef's bar as a single. The staff was very friendly and the service was very good. As I looked at the menu nothing jumped out at me. I ended up getting their version of a Caesar salad, oysters and the Mac and Cheese. All were good but not extraordinary. They have a great popover!!

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
