A little corner of Paris in San Francisco

I was in San Francisco for a business trip with a couple of colleagues and we ate here for dinner one night in the middle of the week and breakfast a couple of mornings later. Both times we managed to get in without a reservation, although I can imagine on busy nights (such as a weekend) that would... read more

If you want a classic French bistro for any meal, don't mind paying for the privilege, and want to imagine what it would be like of part of San Francisco was taken over by Parisians, this is your place. I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The terrific, authentically Gallic service (even if delivered by other than French... More

Each time when visiting San Francisco, let's say once in a year, we use to go at Cafe de la Presse, We love the atmosphere and the very friendly (but not familiar, which is good). In the past, we used to have all our meals, and the food was really good, but not any more... Unfortunately, this time (on 7th... More

My husband and I celebrated our 13th Anniversary in San Francisco last night, and wanted to find a restaurant in the Union Square area for special dinner. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from, many of them in the 4-star but also the $$$$ range. Instead, we decided to go for French bistro cuisine at Cafe de la Presse.... More

We were told at the hotel that the restaurant opened at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. We went into the restaurant at 7:56 a.m. and were told in no uncertain terms that they did not open until 8. The manager made it clear that we should leave. WHY would he not say,

Had an acceptable frisee salad and cocktail one evening, but thought prices were steep overall. The magazine stand in the restaurant just seems odd. The location is nice with great people watching if you are at one of the windows or sitting outside. I discovered Le Central, a French restaurant just a few doors down, a few days later and... More

Had a negative expierence with That Rude Night Host, back in 2011. Gave it another whirl: A hispanic bus boy was "striking poses" and had the most arrogant look. (was not in the mood for Bryant Street, or I would've "removed that nasty look") first night: a $50 steak was smaller than a teenagers hand! andthe waiter was nice, but... More

The "City Service Fee" of 4% is added to the bill here. The manager will tell you that the fee is mandated by the City. But in reality, this is for their employees health insurance. Employee health insurance is a cost of doing business and should be added to their menu prices. But since an omelette is already $14.50, they... More

I thoroughly enjoyed my eggs Benedict, not an easy dish to pull off, though the potato was a little dry, and the espresso was well above average, to the point were I got a second one. The atmosphere is nice and contributed to the experience, but despite my and my counterparts enjoyment, the price at the end of the meal... More

If you want a tiny salad that costs 20$ and want to have to flag people down for water or a check, with dozens of better options nearby, this is your place.
