I've been here a few times. The food has been consistently good each time and on one occasion, it was excellent. The service has been superlative everytime. There are a couple of things to note - the portions tend to be smaller, which is great for individualized dining but don't plan to share (more than a bite). Its really hard... More

Go here for an amazing dinner! I loved my Little Gem Salad (I never order salads). My husband loved his bavette steak. The wine, appetizers, sides (green beans!), entrees, and dessert (bread pudding!) - all amazing! The cocktails weren't really our style. We like bitters and citrus adds. They offered herbal, fruity, sweet concoctions. Favorite restaurant of our entire CA... More

My husband, son, and I had dinner at this restaurant last night and it was absolutely phenomenal! The calamari, the salmon, the quail, the bread, the wine. . . everything was so delicious! This is a small restaurant that probably serves less than 50 people. The service was great. This restaurant appears to be quite popular and I had to... More

I ate here several years ago when the place first opened. I had no reservations and asked if I could sit at the bar and order appetizers. They agreed and sat me right away. The food was pretty good and if you sit at the right location at the bar, you can see Chef Melissa Perello at work. The bar... More

This is our first trip to SF and we tried Frances based on the some online research - not just TA - and it was as we anticipated. The restaurant is located in the neighbourhood of Castro. The restaurant is small with about a dozen tables and as such it has limited space but that didn't seem to matter because... More

I don't get the negative reviews for Frances, really. The place was full of locals, first great hint. It's in the Mission, in a mostly residential area so really away from the abundant tourist traps in SFO. The food is pure local goodness, a bit expensive but worth every bite. Try the famous bacon beignets, they're famous for a reason,... More

Came across this place in the SF 38 list of restaurants to go to. Need to reserve a table in advance. A bit far away from union square, but easy to commute to via muni. Food was excellent. Portions were good, and Service was great. Small, intimate, great date restaurant. Would go again.

We dined here on the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed. Excellent food, good service, quaint little restaurant in a definitely non-tourist environment. If you are a tourist, you may have some trouble getting there (not easily accessed by the MUNI system). However, it's worth a jaunt into the neighborhood.

Pre-booked dinner for two and have to say how disappointed we both were. Not a good start as the Maître D was so miserable and looked like he had swallowed a bee! This was followed with hit and miss service from staff that looked liked they didn't want to be there. The restaurant is very small, and we getting wafting... More

During a recent four day visit to beautiful San Francisco, I was recommended this wonderful restaurant - it turned out to be the best meal of my three week stay in the US! I had no reservation but was made very welcome, sipping a glass of wine while waiting for a spot in their casual area at the front of... More
