i have read previous reviews about the wait, but wasn't too long, 20 minutes. The menu is filled with different pizza from around the world. I have missed NY style pizza living in Chicago. The NY pizza was just as good as I remember living in NY! Waiter seemed annoyed to be working and that was the only downfall.

Let me start by saying this: I love pizza and seek out the best I can find when I travel. My recent trip to San Francisco allowed me to check out Tony's. I was particularly intrigued by the margherita which they claim to only serve 73 of them a day. Being just slightly competitive, I made a beeline straight from... More

We went here over spring break after recommendation from our hotel. The New Yorker was very very good! We are from St. Louis so decided o try the St. Louis style pizza. It was super close to the pizza in St. Louis! The closest to any St. Louis style pizza outside of St. Louis! I would recommend this place. Service... More

OMG what more can we say? We didn't have any idea on how popular this place is, what time it opened and how lucky we were to get in. We arrived 11:45 and were told by the couple in front of us they didn't open till noon. Within 5 minutes there was a LONG line to get in. We sat... More

My wife and I tried both a full-size pizza and also some individual slices from Tony's. The pizza we ordered was a coal-fired New Yorker. The toppings were ok but the crust was lacking in flavor and texture. Would not order this type of pizza again. The slice house Tony runs next door was much better. Lines can be long... More

We seated at the bar, the service was very good... The pizza... Ok we ordered the famous prize winner marguerita. Reading the articles hanged on the walls made our expectations gone sky high... Reality? The pizza was just ok... I mean, its a good pizza, but definitely not the best.

Great Neapolitan pizza cooked to the right temps, also great location. But, because they won an award a couple of years ago, the pizzas are way too pricey. There are other neopolitan pizza places in SF that are just as good and cost at least $5/$7 less per pizza.

Glad to find gluten-free pizza available but was very disappointed by the taste, could not continue after having 2 slices. My partner had the Napoletana 900 degree wood fired pizza and it was only ''edible''. We're probably too spoiled by real italian pizza as we visit Italy very frequently, like, once every few weeks. It may be way better than... More

If you love pizza or Stromboli then Tony's is a must try. We make it a point to stop in every time we visit SF. Can be a long wait for tables so we hang out and grab seats at the bar when they open up. Their salads are large so we split one and ordered a Stromboli. Tasty! Good... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
