Every time I am in San Fran I have to stop by and grab pizza from Tony's! But it isn't ever unfortunately that simple, I've always waited an hour+ to eat usually closer to 2, the staff is very used to these waits and therefor not very understanding to the customer at times. The food is AMAZING but... read more

We went to this place for business because one of the people in our party had read a review that this place was in the top five in the US for pizza. I am not sure if that is an exageration or not, but the pizza here was some of the best I have ever had and I was in... More

This little pizza shop has out beat local Italian pizzerias in during competitions in Naples, and there is definitely a reason why! They actually ship the freshest and best ingredients from Italy and have truly perfected their craft. With several different kinds of ovens with different temperatures and dough recipes, there is something for everyone. Their Marguerite pizza which they... More

I love the Italian district AKA North Beach area in SF and heard that Tony's was the best pasta and pizza in USA. It didn't disappoint! Great food, fantastic menu and super service. We ate outside and the waitress was top notch. Good advice on a sensibly priced Napa CabSav and on the food choice. Not cheap but well worth... More

We had a 3 day stopover in SF on our way to London and wanted pizza. We Googled it and ended up at Tony's. The Pizza was so good we ate there again on our return stopover!! The atmosphere, service, food and price were perfect and we will definatly visit again when next in SF. Be prepared for a wait... More

By far the best Margherita pizza. I hate to offer this review because they only make a limited number of Margherita pizzas each day. So, go early if you want to taste a world-class pizza.

We did the take out next door and not the sit down because we were rushed for time, but this was possibly the best pizza I have ever had. These guys have it down to a science. Would definitely go back.

San Francisco has some fine dining options for all, demonstrating how fantastic a city it is. Despite the 40 minute wait, which is a result of it being so popular, it was well worth it, with the staff being very friendly and the service sufficiently fast. For such a large city, the price of all the dishes were very reasonable,... More

Went to try Tony's pizza on our first evening and we weren't disappointed. We both had a slice of the Margherita as recommended by other TA travellers and thought it was one of the best we had tasted. We went inside the restaurant on the corner of Stockton and Union and it looked very cosy but as the weather was... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
