Incredible pizza and huge selection!

I had heard several times during my trip to San Francisco that I HAD to try Tony's pizza. I finally got to on the last night of my trip, and it even exceeded expectations. There are so many different and unique choices, from flavor to style of pizza. Plus, the pizza came out fast. The worst part... read more

We went on Wednesday night and only had to wait 30 mins for a table. Sadly the service whilst waiting was disappointing. We were told to move our drinks from the bar where we put them whilst having to stand waiting. This included a wine bottle which we were told would be poured away if we didn't move it. When... More

I love coming here when craving pizza! It's a cool and very popular place, so reservations are a must. They serve different kind of pizzas and I enjoyed the one with which the Chef won a world championship against Italy! It has goat cheese, figs and glazed onions I think.

Our tour guide on our Yosemite trip recommended this pizza place. We entered, cold and hungry, and the place was packed! The maître de said that there would be a 15 minute wait, but some people saw us waiting for a drink at the bar, and said they were going, so we got seats at the bar. The bar maid... More

A local friend recommended Tony's. Now we know why! Amazing pizza with the freshest mozzarella! Also try the chili oil on the table, but the pizza is perfect alone! Some patrons next to us shared the meatball appetizer, wow! Then we recommended it to another couple for the next night, they also gave it a 10 and thanked us for... More

This is not your ordinary pizza place. You can tell that much thought and care have gone into planning the menu and go into the preparation of the meal. While not inexpensive by any means, it is worth the price and more. If someone you know has never had pizza or turns their nose up and "having pizza", take him/her... More

In looking for City Lights bookstore we ended up at a corner where we looked around and saw Italian, Chinese and Mexican restaurants and the air smelled like garlic bread so we said we have to come back here. We did and saw Tony's was highly reviewed so we went early and ate at the bar. Asiago cheese, spicy sausage,... More

We wanted to try their pizza one night and called one in for pick up. We had to call about 7 times before someone picked up the phone, but were able to get one after ensuring that we would be there by 11pm and paying with a credit card over the phone. Three of us sat outside the pickup door... More

1) Love the surrounding atmosphere; adjacent park (name escapes me?) 2) Flavor-filled ingredients and stringy melted cheese; and the pizzas are large; 3) Actual dining area is moderate, which is why Tony's takeout is a huge business; and why there are so many people waiting; 4) LONG wait list if your desire to is dine-in, so get there early as... Love this place, ingredients are fresh and shipped in from Italy and you taste the difference. If you're looking for an American style pizza, look elsewhere.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
