The decor is nothing exciting, but the food is very, very good. My husband had the lamb curry, I had a couple of vegetarian selections. Both were very spicy, but delicious. Portions are huge!

the fresh naans are great and so is the chicken tikka masala. ambiance is sub-par, but the food makes up for it.

Place make you feel like you are in a foreign country. We heard no one speaking English the entire time we were in the restaurant. The food was actually very good - medium to hot in spice. We all loved the goat curry and the beef. Kids loved the mango lassi. The service was not bad, there just wasn't any.... More

I stopped by this place on my last night in town as I was craving a good curry and was encouraged by the TA reviews. It's definitely a hole in the wall and the decor is functional rather than attractive but I've learned not to judge by the taste and not the presentation. My guess is they do a lot... More

My wife and I ate here our last night in San Francisco, after a recommendation from our Indian taxi driver. We had come from Singapore where we stayed in Little India. The food at Shalimar was truly outstanding--a great, authentic match for the best Indian/Pakistani food (hawker) stalls which cater to the Indian labor force in Singapore. We also found... More

We went to Shalimar because of the positive reviews on tripadvisor and were not disappointed !! The food was really, I mean REALLY good, and it was served very quickly. The decor of the restaurant could certainly be updated, and the service was not that friendly, but that really didn't matter because we liked the food so much. We will... More

Having dining around India at many top-rated hotel restaurants, to holes-in-the-wall, and everything eatery in between, I know an authentic Indian restaurant when I see one in North America. In fact, there are not many truly likable restaurants like Shalimar in the West - the ones I've found over the years in Canada, and elsewhere in the U.S., are usually... More

I have been here many times and each time the food is consistently good. I often have roti/naan with paneer butter masala. It tastes so good. Tea is on the house. Its a very average looking place but food is unforgettable. Reminds me of the Indian dhaba food - cheap and best!

Staying nearby and walking down the street, I saw a truck unloading real mesquite into a restaurant and checked it out. I lived in Pakistan for 2 years and have worked in India. This place is like eating in Peshawar, or Lahore. Just walking in the door and smelling the aromas was a trip. We had take away of chicken... More

I went to the Shalimar about two years ago on a visit to SF - coming back it is still just as good - the hotel I was staying at described it as a hole in the wall - probably accurate but don't let the decor put you off - the food was very good and very cheep - brain... More
