Dont be decieve by the building or exterior, neither how it looks; it's a great, one of the best Indian food I ever had... Went two times in 2 days, before leaving SF.

If you are looking for halal restaurants in San Francisco you will find that they tend to be clustered in popular ethnic areas such as Little India. This was a busy place when we arrived, lucky to get a free table. As there were local people of Indian or Pakistani origin eating there was a good sign. We were given... More

Tikka Masala!! SAAG GOSHT!! GARLIC NANN!! enough said! A bit on the back alley location and parking not the easiest. I love this place... GREAT experience, service, and food..... Don't expect a clean bathroom or perfectly clean joint.... this is a dive that cooks up great food and an atmosphere that is exactly perfect for the dining experience. Did I... More

The decor is nothing exciting, but the food is very, very good. My husband had the lamb curry, I had a couple of vegetarian selections. Both were very spicy, but delicious. Portions are huge!

Place make you feel like you are in a foreign country. We heard no one speaking English the entire time we were in the restaurant. The food was actually very good - medium to hot in spice. We all loved the goat curry and the beef. Kids loved the mango lassi. The service was not bad, there just wasn't any.... More

I stopped by this place on my last night in town as I was craving a good curry and was encouraged by the TA reviews. It's definitely a hole in the wall and the decor is functional rather than attractive but I've learned not to judge by the taste and not the presentation. My guess is they do a lot... More

My wife and I ate here our last night in San Francisco, after a recommendation from our Indian taxi driver. We had come from Singapore where we stayed in Little India. The food at Shalimar was truly outstanding--a great, authentic match for the best Indian/Pakistani food (hawker) stalls which cater to the Indian labor force in Singapore. We also found... More

We went to Shalimar because of the positive reviews on tripadvisor and were not disappointed !! The food was really, I mean REALLY good, and it was served very quickly. The decor of the restaurant could certainly be updated, and the service was not that friendly, but that really didn't matter because we liked the food so much. We will... More

Having dining around India at many top-rated hotel restaurants, to holes-in-the-wall, and everything eatery in between, I know an authentic Indian restaurant when I see one in North America. In fact, there are not many truly likable restaurants like Shalimar in the West - the ones I've found over the years in Canada, and elsewhere in the U.S., are usually... More
