A real treat for sophisticated Italian and French food fans

We had the most knowledgeable waiter this side of the Atlantic on a recent visit, who recommended a risotto and then told us the name of the rice kernels used. (No, Food Network fans, it wasn't Arborio.) The risotto was splendid, and in fact everything else was too. The tables are small and the... read more

We had some of the best appetizers and meals ever. I wanted vegetarian and I had beet Bourguignon. It was fabulous! Great wine selections and desserts!

You will struggle to find a better view whilst eating your meal, came here with a large party and enjoyed every minute for entry to exit .

Make sure you know where RN74 is, there is no sign, it's that kind of place. Smaller then normal bar area but this place is for dinner not necessary for drinks only. Farm to table type concept with unique dishes and an extensive wine list. Service could have been a little faster in fact a couple 2 tables away walked... More

The food was quite good and the space was really interesting, but the noise level at the restaurant was deafening. I could barely hear the person sitting next to me, let alone the person across from me. The Happy Hour special at the bar was good, and dinner was tasty - and portions were good. I appreciated that a cheese... More

We spent New Years Eve here, and were under-whelmed. The atmosphere is fine, casual with a nod to train travel. The Hungarian Champagne we ordered at the bar was terrible. The holiday menu sounded creative (Kumamoto Oyster & Champagne Sabayon/ Jamon Iberico Monte Cristo/ Marinated Nantucket Bay Scallops/ Roasted French Turbot/Black Truffle Raviolo/ Stuffed Sonoma Squab/White Truffle Banana Milkshake/Dark Chocolate... Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our meal but I don't know if it was expectations due to reputation or an off night but everything was..... just good. I enjoyed the mushroom soup; very well done. It was a nice environment but not cozy. The steak was well portioned and cooked to the perfect warmth. Service was..... acceptable but not... More

I first heard about RN74 years ago before even moving out to California. I randomly saw an article in wine spectator about them and their unique European-style train schedule board that tells you what wines in the cellar are hot for purchase. That part of the atmosphere was our main draw, because that told us the wine selection would probably... More

Took some customers for a business dinner and really enjoyed the atmosphere and wine. Souffle was worth the wait, but my sea bass was a little disappointing. I would try again as the rest of the group enjoyed their meals.

Recommended by a friend - we are so glad we dined there. The restaurant is a bit noisy but has a great vibe. A very eclectic menu - we ordered all appetizers/small plates & then didn't have room for a main dish. Definitely try the mushroom soup, warm olives, brandade beignets. Extensive wine list and our server was very knowledgeable.... More

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
