Great food, go early

Definitely a popular place, go early to avoid a long wait. It is also quite loud and the tables are really close together. I was looking for a quieter dining experience that evening, so the noise was a bit much for me but the food was very good. I had the empanada appetizer and two tamales (one... read more

Got back to our hotel late one night, wanted to find something close to our hotel. The concierge recommended Tropisueno, just out the back door of the Marriott Marquis. The place was hopping when we arrived, but we only had to wait for a few minutes, despite the fact that we did not have a reservation. The vibe at the... More

We arrived without reservations and the staff were able to accommodate our party of five. No mean feat considering the place was mobbed. The atmosphere is above average and the many dishes we ordered were superb. The waiter was friendly, funny, and efficient. We will definitely return to this gem on our next visit to San Francisco.

We came right as the lunch rush was starting, and had to stand in a line that ran out the door, but all moved quickly and we were seated and eating within 20 mins. They seem to be a well-oiled machine and can easily accommodate lots of people all at once. The food was tasty (their poblano mole was delish!)... More

Just go! The food was great! The cocktails were awesome! It was busy and our group had to wait, but it was well worth it! Order the guacamole! You will not be disappointed!

This was within walking distance of our hotel and a lovely surprise! The margaritas are phenomenal, food excellent, service friendly and fast. Unique menu. Highly recommend.

Walked in without reservation, was told it would take 25-30 min for a table. But it was barely 10 mins of waiting. Very slow service as it was extremely busy. Our drinks took 20 mins to arrive that too without water that my son asked for. Food took 45 min for just two main dishes ordered. Not too much choice... More

Don't be put off by the line, this place is busy for reason. The Taqueria style service for lunch is a fantastic idea that is well executed. Everything we had for lunch was fresh and of high-quality. I will definitely be back and tell others about this great find!

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
