The biggest down to our visit was the atmosphere. The tables were very close together and it was very noisy. So, it was really hard to have a conversation during dinner due to everyone else trying to talk over each other. The chips and salsas were good. It was nice to have 3 different choices for salsa. The food was... More

The free salsas are all delicious. (They bring you three different kinds!) My favorite was the green salsa, which I normally don't care for, but this one was delicious! It was the table's favorite. I ordered two different enchiladas. Our server recommended the shredded chicken, and even though I'm not usually wowed by chicken, she was right! It was the... More

Authentic Mexican food in the heart of SFO. After eating three night straights at fancy fusion dining restaurants, I was craving for some good ol hearty authentic food. Tropisueno delivered just that - amazing freshness and authenticity. Will be back there when in SFO next time!

This is no Mexican dive. The food is delicious, fresh, and full of delights and surprises, as well as the usual traditional fare. The meal begins with the requisite tortilla chips and three different kinds of salsa. We enjoyed a filling meal of sopa de pollo and a hearty salad, as well as Mexican beers you don't find anywhere else.... More

Really tasty food, great selection, large portions and good value for money. It was really busy the night we went and was a fun, lively atmosphere. Great service, particularly as it was so busy. Really handy location to Union Square area hotels.

This is a must for foodies. Has some amazing Violet margaritas, delicious abondigas soup. Beans and rice are authentic.the atmosphere was like your in the heart of Mexico and our waitress was very nice and obliged all of our questions and made recommendations we loved.

I found this place on Trip Advisor before heading to SF. The reviews did it justice. (Thank you!) The dining room doesn't open until 5:30 for dinner, so we waited for half an hour in the bar. Other patrons were friendly. Staff was attentive and polite. Rather than order large plates of food, my husband and I shared several appetizers.... More

The Mexican food at Tropisueno was delicious! The fresh chips and three types of salsa provided were so great. The tequila based drinks were fabulous. I ordered a hibiscus tequila drink and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere here is very cool. Very nice decor and low lighting with strung lights/candles made for a romantic evening. The staff was very... More

We had a great meal at Tropsueno during our visit to San Francisco. The food was fresh and flavorful, the chips and salsas were spicy and delicious, and the margaritas were freshly made and not too heavy on any mixes - we hate to pay for margaritas that are obviously mostly sugary mix but the margaritas served here are use... Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
